Your kid's favorite graphic novel???

I work with low income kids. Most of them know how to read just fine but I am trying to help them to LOVE reading by introducing them to some great books. Things with many pictures yet good stories to go with them. I don't mind younger kid picture books but Im aiming at something for 8-13 year olds.

Here are some that I just purchased that the kids are already enjoying. Akiko, Tin Tins, Astrix, and I also got the complete Carl Bark series (comics) and The early Charlie Browns where they were so young and cute.

Money is not an issue as I received a hefty grant. Any great books or graphic novels that your kids just love that I should get?

Even if they don't quite fall in to the category I mentioned, please feel free to recommend "must have" books in this library I'm trying to grow.

Thank you!

I'm not sure whether the Shakespeare books by Marcia Williams are described as graphic novels, but they are in cartoon form. You get the basic plot of the plays, the audience's possible reaction, etc.

My 11yo LOVES the W.I.T.C.H. graphic novels. They have a bunch a *regular* chapter books too that we read to her (developmental delays, not reading well yet). They are definately not great literature, but they are full of teen angst and boy trouble and all that type of thing. http://www.amazon.com/W-I-T-C-H-Grap.../dp/0786836741

These sound good. I would like to get them as much for me as the kids!
Thanks.

3momkmb, I have been eyeing the W.I.T.C.H. graphic novels. So she really loves them huh? That's the kind of books I'm looking for. Im not feeling like they have to be great literature. Just something to get them to love reading.

Thanks Folkypoet. The bone series looks great too. I really like the graphics. I saw these suggested on an older forum so I added them to my list.

Dar, I already have the captain U and Calvins. I really love both and so do the kids. Thanks so much.

Is it just me, or is Baby Mouse based on the Kevin Henkes mouse books? I swear, that mouse is Lily. I think they're terribly cute, though.

Courtney Crumrin and Yotsuba& are fabulous and the youth librarian here says they're very popular with kids.

They've also started doing the Babysitter club books as graphic novels.

: I'm getting some great ideas here. I loved the original Wizard books but this looks fun and the artwork looks amazing.

Yes, we have little ones that I bet would love Baby Mouse.

Courtney Crumrin got pretty good reviews on Amazon. The only negative was the way they drew her nose. That cracked me up.
