Can you recommend a stroller?

Please no debates about strollers.

It needs to be...

- lightweight- easy to fold and fits easily in a trunk with plenty of room to spare
- weight limit of at least 55 pounds
- 5 point harness
- easy to maneuver (especially in stores)
- reclining seat is a plus
- the foot rest HAS to be very resistant because he breaks them Confused
- Less than $200
- a big plus would be easy to push one handed, though that's not a deal breaker

I would consider jogging strollers too, as long as it fits all those requirements- especially the maneuverability one (I HATE taking my jogger to the store because I can't steer it well- it does not have a swivel wheel).

Look into the MacLaren line. They're known to be compact, lightweight, and maneuverable. I have a Volo that I love (love!) but others have higher weight limits.

Steph, we got a Silver Cross umbrella stroller and we really like it. We live in a rural area and take walks on gravel roads and it has big wheels that manuever well. It is a British company, but there are lots of places online to buy them. It is, unfortunately, difficult to find a place to try one out though. Ours is really lightweight and very easy to open and close. It has a nice harness (truthfully I can't remember the difference between a 3 and 5 point harness). The harness has a piece that comes up between the legs and then 2 over-the-shoulder pieces that buckle into the lower piece. I think it would be extremely difficult for Owen to get out of it until he learns to work the buckle. I think we paid about $100 for our stroller. They have several different ones to pick from.

Anyway this wasn't a brand I had ever heard of. Hubby and I were having philosophical differences over what type of stroller to buy so we kept searching and finally found this company. We really like the stroller.

Has been a number of years - ok, a decade.... - since I shopped for strollers. We had a stroller I loved - but it wouldn't fit your criteria as it was fairly big and heavy and over price limit. Dh thinks it was a Peg Perego, but I'm not sure.... (I know we had a high chair by that company - and it was great).

My friend had a much lighter but very nice stroller - I think it might have been the McClaren like another poster mentioned. Although I think they are pricy.

No : from me - I LOVED our stroller; used it with all three girls.

If you want a lightweight, a Maclaren or Kidco would be your best bet. www.specialtybaby.com would have the best deals.

A jogger would be more durable and have a bigger seat. Under $200, you are unlikely to find a large seat.

The footrests are metal. They meet all of your requirements. The only complaint is that on the 2005s, the canopies are a bit shorter than the newer models, but I don't think that is worth the extra $150.

Ooh, ooh, get the Mountain Buggy!! Those suckers are sooo nice, really easy to handle, turn on a dime. My friend has a double and when loaded up with her 4yo and my 3yo one day, it was STILL easy to push with one hand!

The Combi City Saavy is pretty nice and would meet all of your requirements. Plus, they sell them at BRU so you could test drive one first.

The Mountain Buggy rocks and is the best pushing stroller I've ever tried. For under 200 I'd snap one up (that's a HUGE price break...WOW!). I can use mine one handed on rocky nature trails with DS.

However, the Maclarens do well one handed and some of them come in under 200. The Volo doesn't recline but it is extremely lightweight.

I love my Volo. Chicco makes a knock off, that does recline. I had that first and liked it as well, but my Volo is very nice.

Get the Maclaren. The quest if you want it cushier, a legrest, and 4 recline positions (but only 45 degree angle still, it's the one we have we LOVE it) and the Triumph if you don't need the legrest, can deal with 2 positions (sitting up & 45 degrees, no in the middle) and slightly less cushy. We have the quest and really love it. The triumph is slightly lighter also. Also costco has a triumph sometimes if you have a membership there.

LOVE my Maclaren(s).

I have a 2001 Maclaren Techno. I paid $299 at the time in 2002. Worth every penny. It reclines and turns on a dime!

I also own 2 VOLO's ($99)

One that goes up to 45 lbs. Got that one one sale (that's why I bought it).

Then I found out the newer ones go to 55lbs AND come with a hood, so I had to buy it. Sadly, the Volo's don't recline.

So I vote for a Maclaren between the Volo & Techno. After 2001, the Techno's (all Maclaren's) started to be made in China instead of the UK, so there were lots of problems with the first bunch in 2002/3. I'm sure they are fine now.

BTW, I only use strollers when my children got too heavy for the sling - around 20 months.

Ann- Owen has a 3 point harness in his stroller right now (just a cheapy umbrella stroller). He doesn't try to escape out of it (because he LOVES his stroller and wouldn't want to get out) but if I stop the stroller he leans waaaay forward until his head is on the floor : So the next stroller will be a 5pt harness (shoulder straps)!

thatsuzygirl- Unfortunately we don't even have a BRU anywhere near here : We have a TRU about 35 minutes away but I went there today and they have a crappy stroller selection.

LOL Andrie.... wish we lived closer! Shipping would be a killer though
