YMCA and vaccinations

I'm looking into getting a family membership to the local Y. Does anyone know if they require vaccinations or proof of exemptions for utilizing the free or low cost babysitting? I know they run a daycare at the Y and after school programs that probably do, but what about just the babysitting?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Nope. They won't require. If they did you could use an exemption.

No they do not, or atleast at my Y they did not...However they let sick kids go and every single time I took my daughter she would get sick within a few days.

Ugh. I have heard of that concern. Its really the only place thats even somewhat affordable for us, since they offer low income memberships.

my kids have gone to the y daycare, preschool, aftercare, and drop-in care for the gym. the daycare, preschool, and aftercare require a listing of the vaxes my kids have had BUT are the ONLY childcare i have ever seen that quotes the pa exemption in their handbook statement.

drop-in care for the gym doesn't require evidence of anything other than your y membership.

No, you won't have a problem at all. My dd goes to the actual YMCA daycare and isn't vaxxed and its no problem at all. For the actual center we just did an exemption, as far as the Y and the sitter service, I have never known anyone to ask about vaccinations.

Our Y did require proof of vax for the drop in babysitting service (NYC). I just used a religious exemption and no one batted an eye.

Only those facilities which are regulated under your state's childcare laws would require immunization history. And even then the facility is likely exempt from collecting and maintaining immunization history if they only watch kids for 1 or 2 hours max. while their parent works out.

It's like church babysitting services - they're not required to collect and maintain immunization history because they're not regulated. Neither are places like Gymboree.

Unless the facility is technically a childcare facility, then immunization history is not necessary. That's not to say that some places don't try though.

I worked at our local YMCA child drop off center back in 1999.(NY) The kids could stay for up to 3 hours. They did request on file an updated vax paper. I don't know why, as care for less than 3 hours doesn't have to be licensed by the state. I'd just write out an exemption in lieu of a vax form if they gave you one.

Ours used to have sick kids come in all the time too..parents just didn't keep them home.

Well, I don't as of yet have an exemption. My kiddos are 3 1/2 and 1, and we don't plan on putting them in public school.. so I haven't jumped to get this done yet. I'm wondering if I should just try it and see if they ask? I'm pretty sure IF I ask they'll tell me I have to bring one. LOL You know how that goes.
