Parents not allowed in during exam or treatment

Hi,
I am in PA and have had nothing but difficult experiences with dentists for my children.
I cannot, for the life of me, seem to find a dentist that does not have a problem with me staying with my sons during their exams and treatment.
If I can be with my children during a doctors appt, why not the dentist?
When my older son was 4, he had tooth decay in 4 teeth. The dentist INSISTED that they had to be crowned. He had to be put under anethesia and it was just a horrible ordeal.
So then, one by one, each tooth that was crowned got infected and had to be pulled.
They wanted to give him nitrous oxide (laughing gas) but I refused. I NEVER had this as a child and my husband had a severe reaction to it. I had to fight tooth and nail to stay with my child while this was being done on 4 separate visits.
Any way, there is so much more to this story but I would have to write a novel, lol.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a childrens dentist in the Philadelphia area that will not argue about having the parents in the room during treatment.

I'm not from PA but I just had to sympathize with your post. That is horrible!

AKKKKK I feel your pain but from the other side. My mom was never allowed in the room when I went to the dentist as a kid. We eventually switched to the practice of the parents of a school friend of mine. Good luck!

Yep, I had a hard time finding someone to let me sit with my dd, who needed dental work at an early age, but I did keep calling around until I found someone. No little kid should have to go through that sort of thing without a mom's comfort.

Absolutely unacceptable. I had to fight to stay with my kids with our first dentist, and our new dentist is a wonderful mother, who also has a son on the autism spectrum, who handles SN kids beautifully, and I've been there for every procedure for my 8 and 4 yo.

Here's a horrible news story outlinging exactly why you should be there: http://www.kirotv.com/news/10934740/detail.html

OMG! That's in my area! I'll be taking DS to the dentist for the first time soon and I'll make sure to find one where I will be in the room with him.
