GD links for teen mom

Thread Starter
I have a friend who is a teen mom. Her son is 15 months old. She occasionally spanks him or smacks his hand. She does it very gently because she hates doing it, but grew up in a spanking household and didn't know any other way. I've talked to her a bit about GD and she is VERY interested in it and very impressed with the way DS behaves considering I've never spanked him or even smacked his hand. I told her about redirection and leading by example.

I've checked the anti-spanking links and I found a lot of stuff to give her about WHY spanking is bad, but I can't find much about what to do instead. It would help her a lot to have specific examples of what to do. I don't think she'd read a book or a long, involved article about GD, so I'm looking for some short, snappy suggestions.

TIA!

I've printed this and given it out:

Its Katherine Kersey's 101 Positive Principles of Discipline -- very practical ideas, and plenty of 'em!

Although not really for babies, Elizabeth Crary's, "Love and Limits" is really short, implementable and to the point. It helps that most of the text is presented in comic-book style.

No suggestions, but if she ever wants to talk to someone who's BTDT, you can send her my way
