Switching to Raw milk while pregnant

Hi All- I am now 36 weeks pregnant and in the process of switching to NT diet. I was wondering if it was safe to switch to raw milk while still pregnant or should I wait until baby is born.

Safer than drinking conventional milk! Seriously!

Don't let the "experts" scare you. I switched to raw milk a little over a month ago and I'm now 25 weeks pregnant. As long as you have a good source for your milk, it's far less risky drinking raw milk than ultra pasteurized.

As long as you trust your source I would switch ASAP. If you can't find a good source I would still get off store milk (we need a clever name to call that crap, what about fake or dead milk??) and drink coconut milk. I think there's a recipe in EFLT. I don't own a copy of that book yet, can someone else share it??

My midwife told me at my first visit to either switch to raw or give up dairy. Period. So we got a cowshare and went raw. I've enjoyed every drop.

What do you all think about raw from our local health food store?

That's where I get our raw milk (HFS). You really should call the source though and find out about their farm, feed, whether or not cows are pastured, etc. I'll admit I was lazy and accepted a friend's word that she had already spoken with the farm and met the cows. But I wouldn't recommend that to anyone else.

Thanks.

Just another voice in here adding that I've known several pregnant women who drank raw milk through their pregnancy and thrived on it! I agree with checking out your source. I'm willing to bet that anyone selling raw milk expects to prove the safety of the milk to their consumers.

What questions should I ask, do you think? (Sorry, don't mean to take over this thread. Hoping op will have some of the same questions!)

How often they test, if they have ever had bad results, what they did if they did have bad results, what they test for.....how often to they clean their milk tanks, how do they clean them.....how do they treat the cows, do they supplemental feed?

When we found our farm, we didn't even have to start asking questions...the "owner" explained their processes and procedures, and started giving us info. They also posted test results on the bulletin.

It's not in any raw dairy farms best interest for their consumers to get sick...I think the norm is they take excellent care to make sure their milk isn't contaminated, but still it's good to ask questions. www.rawmilk.com might have a list of questions and info on their site...I'm not sure.
