No-brush tooth cleaning?

I have sensitive teeth, particularly along the gum line. My gums are a little recessed, and the teeth are worn there due to brushing. The dentist, in that helpful dentist way, tells me that my gums recede because I don't floss enough and we can put topical fluoride on the spots. No way in hell. I hate the way dentists all act like if you had just followed their advice your teeth would be perfect, and any discomfort is all your fault.

So, brushing seems to be the problem, IMO, as that wears the gum line down. If I floss daily, is there a rinse I can use that would take the place of brushing? ANy other advice? I already mega-dose on sodium ascorbate to try to heal my gums.

Can you buy a soft toothbrush, and use it on the flat surfaces (molars) and then brush gently on the front and back to avoid the gum line? Maybe one of those electric tooth brushes that uses "sonic waves" instead of friction to clean?
