missannthorpe: My homebirth was free...i had lovely midwives who believed it was their calling. But the average will run you between 1500 and 5000, normally around three i think. What's nice about a lot of midwives is that they'll have a sliding scale, or you can work-to-pay, or stuff like that. Don't give up on it because insurance doesn't pay it! It's worth every penny, and a lot of times, is cheaper than a hospital birth!

Jillybeans-I don't know if I could get lucky enough to get a midwife that will do it for free... Lucky. I'll figure something out. I think I will use the tax money for it... if I get knocked up now or in the next couple of months we will have another tax deduction for next year, and the baby can pay for it's own birth!

Back when I hired a MW it was 800.00 But it really depends where you live and the midwife.

Oh @&^#^*$()#&

So, I need all your expert opinions!!

SO and I weren't planning to TTC for a few months, but I'm having weird symptoms and was wondering if I should test early - period not due til Friday - cause lots of partying and revelry are to be had this week (friends coming in from out of town).

My LMP was Jan. 21, I have pretty regular 27 day cycles, I generally ovulate on day 13/14 which was the 2-3 of Feb (Fri-Sat). SO and I GIO on Monday night, the 29th of Jan., 4-5 nights before ovulation. I did notice that I was very "juicy" (sorry, TMI) that day and the following days leading up to what I thought was my ovulation date. I also noticed that my breasts were sore *before* my supposed ovulation, which never happens. Do you think I ovulated earlier than usual??

Now on to today: this morning, after FMU, I had bright red blood on the tp. I am only CD23, and 10-11 DPO. I never have bright red blood when I spot before AF and unless I'm getting my period several days early, I'm wondering if this could possibly be implantation spotting : It is no longer red, but more brownish like normal spotting, but still 5 days before AF is due (I don't usually spot more than 2 days before AF)..... UGH - I knew I should be charting!

ETA: I've also been cramping and I never ever have that until the first day of AF and my lower back hurts, too!

Sorry so long!

Am I crazy or should I test??

Thanks, Suzy

Could I please be moved to waiting to know? Thanks.

RE: Homebirth costs--our homebirth (March 2005) costed us about $800. The midwives charged $1500, and our insurance covered the first $700. After a bit of a fight, of course.

Considering how much the insurance would have paid, had I had a hospital birth, I think they should have paid all of our homebirth costs. We saved them so much money. But they don't work that way. It frustrates me, and I'll try harder next time to get more coverage. Of course, we have different insurance now, so I'm not sure what I'm dealing with.

Jill is right--homebirth is worth working/fighting for. If you start making payments at the beginning of your pregnancy, you'll be surprised how little it might affect your budget. I say *might* because I know some of us don't have an extra hundred or two sitting around each month, waiting to be spent. We plan to clean out our basement and eBay lots of goodies to help pay for the birth of our next babe. And don't forget tax returns, if you get one.

Suzy, if I recall correctly, implantation spotting is usually browner (older), not bright red. But I could be wrong.

I think you should test to set your mind at ease, but this early, you probably can't assume a negative is really, truly negative.

Awww. Cute puppy, Jezzy! - takes my mind off of the whiney barking adolescent dog carrying on here next to my desk and takes me back to warm fuzzy quieter days of baby puppyhood.

Cyrusmama, thanks. I hope I feel better too. I swear I have not felt this bad in years. I actually am considering seeing a doctor. Blegh.

Yeah, erm...so much for willpower. I did actually take my last Dollar Tree test this morning, BFN. I'm not going to actually go and spend money on a 'good' pregnancy test until after Wednesday. Wednesday will the big day - AF or BFP, Valentines day, and my moronic loud doggie is going to be spayed. It's my joke of the week: While everyone else is getting laid, Misty'll be getting spayed. :

Zjande, you aren't the only one confused and impatient and frustrated. My temps do look good thusfar, but I am discouraged by the lack of EWCM and confused by the tons of creamy I get all cycle long. I had one day I thought was EWCM, but now I am second guessing myself - perhaps it was seminal fluid from earlier? Aughhh! :
