Best Milk Substitute?

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my raw milk, love it.

However; my doctor wants me to cut out dairy for 2 weeks - oh the horrors! No yogurt, kefir, butter, ice cream, and no raw milk!

I keep telling myself, "it's *just* for 2 weeks, you can do it!" So, I plan on buying something as a replacement today, should I buy almond milk or rice milk? Or something else? I really just want something to put in my tea.

Of course, if I feel 100 times better while I'm off the dairy, I'll have to figure something out....

Almond milk is really tasty. Get the Blue Diamond brand if you can find it. I like the original plain. It tastes a LOT better than Pacific IMO.

I don't really care much for rice milk - it is kind of watery and a bit too sweet, but the plain is okay as a sub in cooking if you need a neutral flavor (like in savory things or sauces).

There's always coconut milk too - great for smoothies and in desserts.

I was off dairy for a whole year because my DD reacted to it in my breastmilk! It was tough (I missed yogurt the most!) but there are ways to adapt. Avacado makes a nice sub for many things cheesy

Coconut Milk is a great sub...especially in soups.

The coconut milk tonic in EFLF is a great sub for nutrients and calcium.

Blue Diamond make a great unsweetened Almond milk....even chocolate.

Making your own is even better but for only 2 weeks it may not be worth your time

I've seen oat milk (I think at Wegmans) and my sister tried it when she could not have dairy while nursing and she said it was pretty tasty- creamy too. I don't really know the process of how they make it, but I guess it is not optimal (but are rice or almond ?). Does that mean you can't have goat's milk either ?

I second the coconut milk. It's not great for straight drinking, but for anything that calls for milk, you can use coconut milk. You can even make yogurt and kefir from it.

I've tried CO in tea and decided it was an ok milk substitute. I've made rice milk before - that's really easy to do. Here's the recipe I liked: http://www.mothering.com/sections/re...rice-milk.html I'm told oat milk is easy to make too but haven't tried.

DD drinks oat milk since she still can't handle much milk, even with switching to raw. She seems to really like it and it looks nice and creamy. The nice thing is the vanilla one doesn't have any sweeteners.
