toddler dental advice needed - healozone, laughing gas, etc.

27 month old has 4 cavities to be filled. we'd like him to be as comfortable as can be and are not a fan of lots of medical interventions, etc. how safe is laughing gas (he is low in B12)? we don't want to go the GA route. 1 filling per office visit is how his dentist will do them. what is healozone? are lasers only used for cavities inbetween teeth?

The only question I can help awnser is the HealOzone question.

HealOzone is a unit that produces ozone gas, which kills 99.999999% of bacteria that causes cavities. It is used in Canada, Germany, Europe, and other countries but is still awaiting FDA approval in the states. There are three dentists that I know of in the states that use it, that bought it from outside of the country. They are in CA, WI, and I think there's one in Utah.

After the machine kills the bacteria, the idea is to remineralize the tooth. There's a Fiji remineralizing cement they can use if the cavity is in the molar, or they have a kit (or you can make up your own regime) to remineralize at home. The kit's basic ingredients are flouride and xylitol.

For more info, you can google HealOzone and you will come up with a bunch of info. The really crazy thing is the unit is manufactured IN the US...it is such a bummer it isn't widely used here....I recieved a few treatments for my son and it worked for us. The only problem is we had to travel 8 hrs away.

Hey Cassandra, have you ever asked around about using this on the front four teeth? I'm actually debating taking a family trip up to vancouver to see the one dentist listed in an ozone database, but I wonder if it wouldn't be pointless since my babe has decay in those front four and they wouldn't be able to use the fuji material to fill. Plus, with such a limited number of dentists performing this, my whole "get a second" opinion thing goes out the window, as does finding a dentist that works well with my small child. Did you use the person in California?

I used the one in Wisconsin www.thesmileexperts.com , and he treated DS's front top teeth with HealOzone, as well as the top 1 yr molars, when he was 24 months old. We had great success with the 1 yr molars in which he was able to place the Fiji, but limited success in his front top teeth. DS's front four teeth came in with no enamel on the back of them, and I'm sure that made them incredibly weaker to begin with. They just chipped away basically.
Do you belong to alternativekidsteeth@yahoogroups.com? You could email Dr. Julian Holmes offlist and ask him questions...he is very helpful and as you probably know if you belong to that yahoogroup, the leading expert on HealOzone. He goes around and educates the country on it.
