baby carriers question

I'm in the market for a baby carrier, so I'm appealing to all you experts.

So far, in my little Shayna's first week of life, she really likes to be held in what I think is termed the "snuggle" position (facing in, head to chest). I've read that the wraps that are long pieces of cloth are hard for first time users. The other type of wrap I was thinking about is the maya wrap.

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments on what I should get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the Over-The-Shoulder-Baby-Holder, and it is REALLY comfy! Wish I would have had it with DD. Good luck!

I have a Moby-style wrap that I made, that will hold your babe in that position. I have no idea how comfortable it is though, because DS hated being in the sling or any type of carrier. I have friends who have back trouble and they have all loved the Moby for early infancy. If you know how to sew, it's really easy to make - but they are easy to find to buy as well!

Check out www.thebabywearer.com!

Its confusing, but the Maya Wrap is a ring sling, not a wrap:

A wrap is a long strip of fabric (think 4-5 yards, by about 30 in.)

Sarah, congratulations on your little one! I have the joey wrap that was made by 2 NYC moms. So far it has been great, I wear DH coat over us both and even in the cold we've been having I feel like he is very warm. It is super easy to put on and it keeps them in that great womblike position. Their website is www.joeywrap.com. They also go to stores ocassionally to promote it(like babies r us in union square), you could email them so you don't have to wait for shipping if you decide to get it. Or if you want we could meet up to try it out, oh yeah there is a NYC babywearing group that has a lending library so you can try on multiple slings and wraps.

Check out the Hug A Bub wrap -i got mine after reading great reviews on it on the babywearer. It is basically like those "long pieces of cloth" (im scared of them too!), but its stretchy which makes it totally easy to tie it on and off. It is supposed to be perfect for when they are newborn/very little. I havent had a chance to wear it yet, but it came in the mail and I love it. I like it better than a friends Moby, the fabric is nicer imo.

I have a girsol wrap which is the nonorganic version of the didymos. I absolutly love it.

Pros-Very comfortable, very secure fitting, lots of position options, warm in the cooler months- just put baby in and zip up our jacket over and your plenty warm. (peppermint.com does not carry these but has wonderful directions with color pictures) excellent for long walks

Cons- takes about minute to get on, feels like forever to get it off when baby wants to nurse, very hot in the summer.

For the new baby I wanted something easier for around the house. Something that I could nurse in and pop baby in and out quickly while tending to DS(2) and DD(9). I found that the pouch will let me do that and it seems great. (DS can fit in it around my belly!). I bought a Hotsling.

Pros- easy, not alot of cloth, can nurse in it, Will be cool in the summer, folds up extremly small. think 3x6x2ish.

Cons- comes in many different sizes and you and DH probably won't be the same size. Probably not good for long walks r/t lack of back support.

Good luck and Congrats!!!

forgot to mention that it is very easy to nuse in b/c it is stretchy and the fabric that is bunched on the shoulders spreads out to hide everything...very handy.

I love my moby wrap, especially for newborns...dd1 loved it, and ds loves it too. They both liked the snuggle position too. I also got a hotsling though for quick around the house, run into the store stuff. I like it, but it is not as easy for me to use as the moby yet...I guess I have to get used to it.

Not in your DDC, but i wanted to share this group with you someone on here shared with me.

They have local groups and they might have one in your area. They meet in person and some even have "lending libraries" so you can test out wraps, slings etc before you decide on speding money on a bunch that you end up not liking.

Congrats on your little one!
