DS has been a thrower since he was capable to do so. I've tried redirecting him to a ball or something else acceptable to throw but he'll have none of it. I've tried telling him that when he's all done with something he should give it to me in my hand, and I point to my hand while telling him. Most fustrating is the food throwing. It's not even a sign of him being done. He'll throw food and ask for me to pick it up and feed it to him, which is not even that bad with dry foods, but when it's a messy food it's a pain. When I went overseas to visit family, he had broken at least one glass at every person's house we visited.
