Does a bleeding tush mean allergy...talk to me mamas!

Ds is 13 months. Lately he'd been having constipation issues, but we've dealt with that (flax oil cured that and cutting out cheese and bananas).

However, I cannot get rid of his poor bleeding tush. It looks as if his poop has "scraped" him. Does that make sense? He's got tiny "scrape looking" bleeding wounds on both sides. About a month ago he had huge crescent- moon-shaped wounds on either side as well. (btw- his poop is soft and never was hard). Obviously the area is very red and ouchy.

Is this allergy related? We've done accupressure point food sensitivity testing on him recently and nothing showed up.

Please, give me any and all advice or BTDT.

I just wanted to throw in there that ds has never slept more than 2 hours in a row his entire life and must nurse back to sleep.

I'm thinking of taking him to a Pediatrics - Allergy & Immunology specialist. Would this be a good idea? I don't like the thought of having blood taken but it is hurting him a lot every time he poops so that route might actually cause him less pain and fear in the end.

Any thoughts on that? Like I mentioned, the accupressure testing didn't give any solid results

That could definitely be an allergy. Have you tried giving him raisins? Prune juice?

I would try cutting all forms of dairy (you, too, since you're nursing) for a few weeks and see where that gets you.

we were in the same boat about three months ago - made an appt with the allergist/asthma specialist (ds also has asthma on top of all the symptoms you discussed). we couldn't get in for about a month, and ds was just getting worse - sleeping even more poorly (at 20 months, had gotten to four hour stretches, but was shortening those), ear infections continued, requiring a LOT of albuterol (despite preventative tx in the am), eating even less (if that was possible), in a terrible, awful mood all the time, and the rash was just raw.

we went cold turkey with milk (just the beverage, not all dairy) - and he began improving immediately. within a week, he slept 12-13 hours straight, the rash began to clear, he ate FOOD, and his poop began to solidify. within two weeks, his behavior/temperament began to mellow out (i think it took a while bc of the milk-demanding tantrums).

when we actually got in to see the allergist, none of the tests (skin, blood, etc) turned up positive for anything - but we have kept him off the milk, and he is doing significantly better!
