how long should I wait after 1 c/s to try again?

I had a c/s in Jan 03 after a trial of labor. Failed to dilate due to baby's posterior position and my 'narrow pelvis' (surgeon said this). I'm gonna be 37 soon and can't afford to wait too long to try for #2. I'd do almost anything to avoid another c/s and expect to try VBAC. I want to know is there any amount of time I should wait before getting pregnant again? I looked at the ICAN website but couldn't find an answer. Anyone know or know where I can read up on this?

Hi,

I read somewhere (it was about a year ago so I don't remember the source) that you should wait 9-10 months before conceiving again. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was a question that I had too. My son is now 28 months so we went waaay past that deadline.

First get your medical records and find out what kind of incision was done and how it was repaired.

Then you can decide how long it should take for you to heal, physically and emotionally from the surgery.

You will also need to educate yourself on the reasons for your surgery and how to avoid another one if that is what you want.

ilovebeingamom is right. At least 9 months because it takes 6-9 months for the incision to heal. The risk of rupture is much less if the babies are at least 18 months apart than if they are less than that. I have seen a couple articles on it.

I don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to say thanks for asking this question. I had c/s in Feb & it didn't occur to me that I would need to wait a certain amount of time before ttc.

(On a personal note, no I'm not stalking you, Wombat. Happened upon this purely by accident.)

My SIL gets pregnant 6 months after each of her babies are born. She's on #4 soon. Her first was a c/s, and she was pregnant by the time he was 5-6 months old, and had a successful VBAC.
