Here's the old thread:http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=487287

Honestly I don't know how it has happened, but things have been getting progressively better and a few days ago when he suggested that she go with him on a five-day trip far away to visit some relatives (whom she's never met) she agreed! Both of us were just This is the kid that has never been away from mommy overnight. But off they went and the report after the first day is that things are going great, they are having a good time, and although the flight to get there was a little grueling (they got delayed and arrived really late) they both handled it well.

When I think about it, I can see that both of them made small changes. Mostly him, of course. He has been making much more of an effort to spend time with her and find ways to play with her that she likes. But on her side, I stopped making excuses for her. Like, I used to always swoop in when I saw things going south and tell him that she was "too tired" or too this or that and I think in a way it gave her permission to not deal with him. When I got out of the way it seems they have been able to communicate to each other the things they needed to. Whatever.

Anyway, I'm just having a party here, all by myself, that my dh and dd are having a daddy-daughter vacation, and I thought I'd share with you all since you gave me support back when things weren't going so well
