I finally get it....

This whole time that I've been a member of this site, I have heard people talk about the fact that there actually ARE people out there who are disgusted by bfing...

I had never come across something like that, we live in a VERY pro Bfing area, and so I was oblivious...

Until yesterday, I was in walmart ( : someone bought DS a bunch of plastic toys, and so I was returning them, which is a whole 'nother story of frustration) and there was this woman breastfeeding her child, the child was about 2 maybe 2 1/2, and theses total (insert UA violation) rolled their eyes and said, "This is why I don't like to come here, TRAILOR TRASH who can't even afford to feed their own kids" as they were walking past.

I didn't say anything to her (not because I didn't want to, trust me) but because the poor mamma got this EMBARASSED look on her face, and started to pull her child away from the breast... so I began talking to her, and I got her to calm down, but she seemed so hurt... its amazing how those silly girls (they were my age 22-24, but still girls KWIM?) could make her feel so bad for doing something so right...

So I guess, my point it, you all were right all along, woman DO have to fight for their rights to BF in public... and even when they arent actually prohibited from doing so, apparently, they still risk being publicly stoned... :

That poor mama. It's great that you were there to step in and give her a few words of encouragement but it's sad that it happened at all. UGH.

Good thing you were there. The poor mom.

That makes me so angry!!!! You know, it's ignorance that is the cause of most problems in this world. Those little *&%$#@! really should have kept their very wrong opinion to themselves! How dare they make a mom feel ashamed and embarassed for feeding her baby! It's like I saw on one mamma's siggie once, if you are offended by my baby breastfeeding, feel free to cover you head with a blanket and finish your meal in the bathroom. Who do they think they are, people like that with their uninformed perspectives? If anyone was "trash," it was them, not the mom feeding her baby.

Muckemom,
I'm so glad you were in the right place at the right time.

do they not see the irony - that thid woman is one of the few who is actually 'feeding her own child'

Some people just need to belittle others to make themselves feel better. Period. If it wasn't "trailer trash" or breastfeeding, it would be something else.
But I would hve been severly tempted to berate them without mercy. But I suppose helping the mom fee l better was probably more important. Good job.

ooooh :

I am a person that happens to like confrontation but rarely get it, I so would have gone off on those little UA violations.... I just don't understand why people think that everyone elses business is theirs and if something isn't done the way they think it should be done it's wrong. Shame on those girls and good for you fo talking to her, hopefully you made her feel better.

I might have said, loudly, "That's why I don't come here. Because some people are too ignorant and rude to have learned to keep their ridiculous, uneducated opinions to themselves. Apparently some women are so silly that they have swallowed the lie that breasts are for men, not nourishing our babies and toddlers. So sad!"

What a !@#$

I don't like Walmart because (at least the one I go to) people seem to fart allot in it well and there is the whole business prac. issue...

But BF? yeah that lady has issues...

I've only had one bad comment and its when a lady leaned in inches away from my boob thinking my DD ( at 4months) was sleeping... weirdo's!

I once read a rather brilliant reply a nursing mom in a mall made to a couple of girls who were going "eeeew" when they saw her:

"Well, girls, you'd better make sure your birth control works really well."

I think you ought to have given the girls a good talking-to.

The last I checked, the "trailer trash" were more likely to FF...

I probably shouldn't have said that, but it's true. At least around here.

I'm glad you focussed on the mom who needed your support.
for both of you

As to their statement, ignoring for the moment the extreme unacceptability of called any person "trash", the statistics are just about opposite their claim.
