When can you hear the heartbeat?

My first appt with the midwife is next Friday. At that point I should be about 7 weeks. I don't think it is their policy to do a an ultrasound and I don't think you can hear the heartbeat with a doppler until 12 weeks? I'm just dying to tell everyone but I'd rather feel like I had a better chance of keeping the pg ( past m/cs are making me gunshy). 12 weeks is not until April 1st! That's forever!

I having my first u/s at 7 weeks and from all the literature I've read it is expected that we should be able to hear the heartbeat then.

yeah, 7 weeks is too early to hear it with a doppler it's usually detectable on u/s around 6 weeks.

I would discuss your unease with the m/w and see if they could do a quick u/s just to find the heartbeat.

I believe at 6-7w it would be through a trans-vag u/s.

We just heard and saw heartbeat yesterday at 6w5d on internal ultrasound. It was awesome, and really has helped with some of my fears. I have past losses as well, so I understand that feeling. Good luck!

I'm not sure when baby can be seen on a regular sono... maybe 10w?

I've heard both my babies hb at 9 weeks. I made my appointment for 9 weeks and she's going to bring the doppler to try to hear the hb. She says others haven't heard it then, but that's when I heard it with both my others.

My MW is telling me 10 weeks is best. I have an appt just to chat at 9.5 wks, so we'll maybe try then, anyway. I know with my 2nd we first heard it at 13wks, but even then it was hard to find because of where my uterus was positioned.
