Yeah I used to be into emo 7 years ago. Now Sunny Day is the only "emo" I can stand. They were original...now they all sound the same.
Now I am into metal for the beautiful technicality of talented bands

Anyways- as far as emo or any music being the root of a kids problem- I don't know. Some kids are emotionally stable and music isn't going to influence them. Some are emotionally unstable and music is going to help them wallow in it. It's all about a family and friend support system that makes the kid feel loved...then the music IS just a phase.
There was a time in my own life at 18 when I was dumped by my first bf that I could NOT listen to emo, because the music really DID make me more sad. Mainly songs with emo lyrics. I could still litsen to some Sunny Day songs that weren't about relationships.
Dh isn't emo (more metal/hardcore)...but at 23 he does owns a couple of pairs of girl jeans because they honestly fit him better. They aren't super tight though like some of the teenagers hehe.
