lol i know that's not a word, is it? anyway, most of my mainstream friends think i'm a total nutter, so i was completely surprised to get an instant message tonight from a mother of 3 asking me for breastfeeding help. she was worried about her 3 month old nursing every 1.5 hours after sleeping 9 hour stretches practically since birth (gasp!)...i reassured her and actually convinced her to bring the baby to bed with her. i showed her this article and she emailed me later with a big thank you and told me she was actually really excited to start doing things differently, and to start just focussing on meeting her baby's needs without worrying about all that other crap!

she weaned all her other babies at 6 months, and we talked about nursing a toddler. she was totally interested and said she had been planning to wean by 11 months when she is running a 2.5 hour race. she didn't want to be dealing with leaky boobs and engorgement then (at 11 months? clearly she was telling the truth about weaning at 6 months!) and i told her what things are like at the 11 month mark, and she was like "oh, well maybe we can bypass the formula stage this time! that would be nice!"

it's like she suddenly saw the light with her third and last baby! the way she was talking, she almost sounded ready to come over to the dark side! hahahaha
