Lying

I'm really at a loss on what to do with my almost 11 year old. He lies all the time. Some times it's serious lies but most of them are so stupid. Like today, I told him to keep an eye on his sister for a second so I could pee. She was sleeping. I come out of the bathroom and he's getting up from the computer chair. I said "I thought you were suppose to be watching your sister" He says he was but the chair was out of place so he needed to put it back. Yeah ok like I believe that one. He knows he's not going to get yelled at for telling the truth even if it's something bad, so I just don't get the lying. I try talking to him about it and he acknowledges what I say and then the next day he's lying again. Is it an age thing or do we have a problem with lying or maybe I'm just over-reacting?

Oh thank you thank you.
I read part of the lying thread and found it helpful.

I'm totally going to do the money thing. He's saving for an Ipod so there is no way he will want to party with that money.

It does sound like a problem if he is lying and doesn't even need to. I like the link to the older thread about lying
