My 4 year old has been talking nonstop since her 3rd birthday.

At what age do they start to...well, pipe down already?

Never! My dh is 39 and never shuts up! And ds is following right in his foot steps.

Um, never.

I've got a 10 yr old and a 14 yr old...and they talk more now than they did when they were little, if that's possible!

My 10 yr old DD reminds me of the little girl in the "Who would you give a Volvo to?" commercial...

Good luck!

Teenage years... they stop talking to YOU, but talk nonstop to their friends!

MY ds has a stream of thoughts always falling from his mouth. He cannot have a thought without sharing it with us all.

And, well, I am pretty much the same way. My mom and sisters told me I never "shut up"! Either talkng or singing. And now my dd is learning a few new words a day and sings constantly.

Somedays my heads is just spinning with the chatter.....oh yeah, and I am a social worker/supervisior so people are always talking to me at work too.

So I guess I am saying that it probably never stops....

Oh no! It never stops? Really? I have an almost-2 year old. Does this mean when she turns 3, she'll start talking endlessly too? Then I'll have two chidren wandering about the house talking nonstop at the same time? Ack!

My ds is a chatty one and he is turning 9 next month. Non stop talking. My dd (6) does not talk as much as her brother. Probably because she is waiting for an opening.

8.5 yo DS is constantly chattering, from the moment his eyes open in the am to the semi-conscious ramblings as he drifts to sleep. He evens talks in the shower (not singing, but conversational talking to himself). In fact, the way we can tell he is ill is his (relative) silence.

[QUOTE=cjanelles;7330894]My 10 yr old DD reminds me of the little girl in the "Who would you give a Volvo to?" commercial...QUOTE] Hahaha! Me too!! I LOVE that commercial, I can RELATE!

On a good note, I don't actually think "never" is true? I talked non-stop until I married a non-stop talker. Then after a zillion times of being told to "not interupt" [while in my late 20s] and a zillion MORE telling hubby and now my son to "not interupt" [while in my 30s] family and close friends actually comment to me on my non-talking.

So, maybe sometimes, the answer is "eventually"... in the 30s and/or 40s? :

My oldest is close to 5 1/2 and talks ALL THE TIME!! I love that he's interested in stuff and likes to talk to us but sometimes I just want a few minutes of quiet!
The other day at lunch all 4 kids were talking and I couldn't tell who they thought was listening. It was making me dizzy so I took a break and wondered how my mom took it all those years. I loved to get her alone in the car and just talk to her about nothing at all. Then I realized my 4 year old had followed me and was still talking about a movie she had seen at Thanksgiving... Said 4 year old has recently given up her afternoon rest so it lasts all day from her. My oldest two leave to deliver papers and the baby naps so I had been getting 20 minutes to myself which was such a nice quiet time.

No help here just commiseration and the realization that I still need her afternon rest.

Ds is the same, just like his chatty kathy dad and his mother,

oh, I really hope as a teenager he will be the same!

As it is now, he can't even lie or keep secrets!

We still can't get a word in edgewise around our 8 (almost 9) year old.

Well, my mother is getting close to sixty and still rambles on. My grandmother died last year at 83. I'd always thought my grandfather was a quiet man, but after she died I found out he actually is fairly talkative but just couldn't get a word in around my grandmother all those sixty-two years of their marriage. So, yeah, I'd say chatterboxes don't stop.
