I'd like to join in on this, too--1st time sock maker, so "silver" looks great to me. I want to buy really cool yarn to keep my motivation high! any suggestions?

do you want to do worsted weight, sport weight or sock yarn? I have tons of ideas!

No fingering!!

If this is your first pair of socks, I highly recommend ww. Definitely don't use fingering for your first go, I'm on my 4th pair of socks, but am ready to pull my hair out over this fingering tofutsies. Grrrr......... Beautiful yarn, but this is the sock that never ends! C R

But how are you getting those YOs even? I'm doing a loose stitch for the P-YO-ssk and a double wrap for the k2tog-YO-P, and they're really uneven. And I think I have thick ankles it looks very stretched on my foot.
um, *shrug*. luck I guess. I just leave the yarn in front from the p2, and do an ssk. then spin the yarn around the needle an extra time for the yo at the end of that row.

I'd like to do dk...I like those self-patterning yarns, I think that's neat. I feel like I could do dk on 5's. (I hope saying this isn't the kiss of death )

I think it will be so cool to wear a pair of socks that I knit. And, as my 6 yo was "organizing" my knitting bag she came across some size 0 DPN's. "What are THESE tiny ones for?" she asked. "Usually socks," I said....

Her eyes sparkled and she said....

"Could you make ME some socks, Mom?" :

(ok, but defintely NOT on size 0's!!)

I'll probably join in if that's okay! I have sock one OTN from silver's but I've been on row 2 for a month or so now? This thread might just be what I need to get motivated. I"m not sure I have the right yarn though. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lisa

I wowuld like to join. I am making a pair of socks for dp and can't get them finished. I knit the cuffs to both and now have to spin more yarn for the foot so May I join and spin while you start your socks and join in for the finish? I would be grateful for the support.

Well, I am not going to join as I have a "to knit" list longer than my legs....

But I just finished a pair of kinda basic soocks off of Silvers tutorial, and I will post pics when my camera likes me enough to work again!

i finished a sock from silvers class last night, its not my first pair, but i decided i didn't want a lot of leg so i made it an ankle sock basically.

Pixie! Those are adorable! Mine have about 2-3 inches of leg, not enough to cuff, but just enough to look good with clogs and a dress.

Love the yarn,too!

Thanks, im torn, if i should start the second one with an unfair advantage to the first time knitters in the KAL, or if i should start a pair of worsted weight ones to do for the KAL so im at an equal pace!

You might want to do a "quick" swatch; you may end up with more of a sport/dk weight than worsted (if you're starting with a fingering weight, at least).

silvers sock tutorial has a sport/dk sock too! lol
post #39 of 200
okay, I'm off to make a swatch.

now can someone direct me to the place that explaines how to post pictures? It's time for me to learn how to do that also.

I might just join in on this. I've never made socks before and it has been on my list. I visited a LYS at lunch and bought myself a set of Lantern Moon 5" rosewood DPNs in size 2.

Pixielinds -- I have that EXACT yarn from Knitpicks. How much did it take to make those socks? I think I have 1 full skein plus about 1/4 of another one.
