Concidence or Diet Change?

Dd is small, as was I. I still am.

3 weeks ago I was advised to stop gluten and dairy. Dd is vibrantly healthy but I took her along for the ride, since it may have a hereditary factor.

A week later, both our dark eye circles were basically gone (mine still show a little, but they've been here forever).

Literally overnight, Dd had a growth spurt of over an inch. Last night I thought she looked longer in bed, and today she was thrilled to discover she could wash her hands without her stepstool today. I measured her against me; as of last week she'd been slowly creeping up above my belly button and now she's much above.

I think this is the biggest growth spurt she's had - ever.

Has anyone else seen this sort of thing after diet changes?

No, i haven't, though I wish to goodness I would have (DS is pretty short). Doesn't sound like coincidence at all to me

I have been wondering the same thing!

We recently eliminated dairy from DD's diet and she shot up an inch and a half, practically overnight. I can't help but think diet has something to do with it. Her skin cleared up and her moods improved at exactly the same time. Interested to know if others have had this experience.

I eliminated gluten from my and my middle daughter's diet 6 months ago; I am severely gluten intolerant, and she is/was very small for her age (at 7, most people think she is 4 or 5). Over the last 6 months, she has grown twice as fast as in the last 2 years ( grew 1-3/4 inches in 6 months, when that is what she grew before in a whole year). While it's not an instant spurt of growth, it has been a huge and noticeable change for her, 'cause she was hardly growing at all before! And the behavioural changes are HUGE and they happened very quickly (within 2 weeks of going gf). And she has rosy cheeks, energy like a 'normal' kid now, and no more black circles under her eyes. HUGE difference in my girl, but the growth spurt was over months not days...

Cheers,
Kim

Dd was considered FTT until gluten was gone. Now she isn't huge, but she at least looks normal.

The other thing I noticed is those pimples on the backs of the arms...I had them young, they faded when I got older and used some dermatologist's cream, they came back when I was pregnant and never went away...

Well Dd looked like she was starting to get them. I was really sad.

Now mine are better and hers are about gone.

When I was small, the family doctor said I had them because I was allergic to butter. We cut out butter but it never made a difference. Maybe he was right about allergies/intolerances, but named the wrong one?

Well, if he meant to say dairy instead of butter (as I don't *think* Gyou could be allergic to butter except through being allergic to the cow milk proteins in it), then yes.

Yes this exact thing happened to child in DS's playgroup, she was celiac. If the intestines are inflamed, nutrients cannot be absorbed properly.
