So I say to him..."Oh, it must be really important that you look like YOUR father"...

That is just one of my new counter "attacks"...is that the right word? As a doula that doesn't work with clients who cut (and BTW, 9 times out of 10, they DON'T DO IT!! yay) I have to constantly think of things to come back at them with. So my new ones are these. They are more aggresive, but that is why they are hiring me!! To protect them, and their baby.

1. I want him to look the same as me.

~Oh, I guess that it is really important in your family that you look like your father...

Well, of course it isn't. I can guarentee that they have NEVER even thought about it before. That usually gets me a blank stare, and a look of OH, I guess that isn't important.

2. The locker room.

~ Did you ever look at someone else's penis in the locker room?

Well, no, of course I didn't. I didn't want people to think that I am gay. (or something along those lines)

~I can say without a doubt, that your son will not be the only one who isn't circumcised. Every single boy that I know, isn't circumcised. It will be very normal. And really, do you ever think about the locker room in highschool? And sitting here, with your wife, does it really matter what happened in highschool?

Well, no, I never think about highschool. So that doesn't matter either.

3. It doesn't hurt.

~Have you ever seen one done? It does hurt horribly. Babies who don't cry are in shock. It is a proven fact. Let's watch a video.

And then my final question to the mother is... are you planning on having your daughter circumcised. They look at me like i am crazy, of course. And say no!! I then say, well, what is the difference in cutting off part of the clitoris and cutting off part of the penis? It does EXACTLY the same thing. Hmmm?

And then they have a girl. hehe...
But at least I know that their boys will always be perfect.

Good for you for formulating interesting, creative scenarios whereby you can respond gently to each potential client couple.
