he has had a patch on his chin for a couple of month now. it flares up several times a week it seems. I use 1% hydrocortisone cream and it goes away. how do I figure out what is causing it? is there anything better than the hydrocortisone I can use to treat it that might make it stay away? TIA for any insite. I see tons of exzema threads here so I will be searching this forum..

How old is he? It is just on his chin? Often it is allergy related so what have you tried to eliminate? (and are you sure it is eczema...I never saw it just in one spot...sometimes babies drool and it gets chapped and irritated).

I second the drool idea. My dd licks her lips and the skin under her lips habitually and it will often get a rash. I just keep putting Aquaphor on it when she's sleeping and isn't licking.

My other thought was possibly a skin infection like impetigo.

Liam gets patches on his cheeks and chinm when it's cold and/or windy outside. The chin is from drool, I'm pretty sure, and the cheeks are just sensitive skin from the wind or cold air. If he has it anywhere else on his body, I know it's something else causing it, though.
