"Bring a stool sample." HAHAHA!!!!

Very funny thing happened today. Our pediatrician's office requested a stool sample from my dd today. I won't get into details, but she's okay. Anyhow, I caught her first poopie of the day, and put it in a plastic cup and covered with press & seal wrap. We arrived at the doc's office, and the nurse requested dd's sample. I handed her the cup, and the nurse just looked at me like I had lost my mind. Then she asked me, "What's this????" I answered with a smile, "It's her stool sample." I can't even begin to capture in words the look on her face, but it was classic! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! They're so used to getting stool samples in sposies, and have never gotten one in a cup. My dd and I are a first!!! I'm still laughing about it! The doc had the same reaction, but he is so impressed with EC and wants to learn more. He was amazed that my dd had the same clean dry diaper on since the night before. Anyhow, I hope this gives someone else a laugh, too. :-)

Too funny. Really, people just bring in the diaper? Strange. I'm excited that your doctor thinks EC is good and wants to learn about it, I'm pretty sure my ped. is not this way. Eventually we'll get into it once we ditch the diapers for trainers, but I'm avoiding it before then!

I know this is an old thread, but I had a similar experience when I went in for DD's 6-month check up. THey wanted some urine to test for protein and sugar in the urine. Normally, to do so, they stick a little plastic baggie with a sticky rim on the baby's vulva, and hope to catch some pee. Well, I said I thought I could catch some in a cup, could I have one please? The nurse thought it was pretty weird, but sure enough, within the next several minutes DD peed in the cup (with some help from daddy), and we presented it to the nurse. She thought this was just amazing and wanted to hear more, and though she has been a pediatric nurse for almost 30 years, had never heard of it.

Fun to get those wheels turning!

Our DCs Dr is a family practice, but mostly geriatrics (it is a long story DW was her first patient and she is a friend of the family) anyway when we were telling her about EC, she was very impressed (and researched the heck out of it) and started teaching caregivers of her Alzheimer patients tips about cues and pottytunities and several have had a lot of success in restoring convenience and dignity to the patients daily lives because of EC.
