Q about Lexapro?

I am about 4.5 years postpartum, so I feel funny posting here. I did have ppd though, but I suffered with it and never got help. But now, due to anxiety issues and chemo treatment, I am needing something to help. My doctor prescribed Lexapro. I've tried Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft in the past (before pregnancy) and had sexual side effects from them all. My doctor told me that Lexapro is less likely to cause sexual side effects. I have not started taking it yet.
If you are on Lexapro could you share your experience with it?

I am bipolar and take 10mg of Lexapro a day along with others. Since taking it, I haven't experienced any sexual side effects. In fact, I would actually say it has improved . I don't know if I would attribute that to the Lexapro though. I also have a friend who is 20 wks preggo and she takes the 10mg as well. The benefits outway the risks with her pregnancy and she said she never noticed a difference either. HTH and I hope things get better

Thanks for the reply. I also got a PM, so that's 3 people who didn't have sexual side effects. That gives me hope!

I was on Lexapro for a long time and had no sexual side effects with it either! Although, I was on it during my pregnancy because my doc said that she wasn't aware of any side effects for the baby. I shouldn't have listened to her though, my daughter was born with severe cyanosis episodes and was in the NICU for 4 days. After the peds couldn't find anything else wrong they found some studies that showed cyanosis being a side effect in the babies of mothers who took it during pregnancy. It apparently doesn't happen all the time, but it can. It was scary- so if you plan to become pregnant I urge you to reconsider the benefits/risks.
Otherwise, I loved being on lexapro- I too had tried like every other anti-anxiety/depressant out there and this was my favorite.
I hope you feel better!

I was on it briefly for PPD (10 mg/day) with no sexual side effects. However, for me, it didn't have much of an effect at all. While on Lexapro, it was hard for me to get motivated to do anything - not exactly beneficial for a working mom of a very active child!

I first tried Zoloft for PPD. While it worked very well, I also got nasty headaches. I tried Lexapro next, and when that didn't do anything for me, my psychiatrist switched me to Wellbutrin. That worked extremely well.

Good luck, and fight that lymphoma! My beloved grandmother had lymphoma. It's a terrible disease. I'll pull for you every step of the way!
