Just jumping in on this thread, very late I know and I haven't read all the posts.

: I just wanted to say that while I started out not wanting to go over the top with the Princess OR Disney stuff, we have. At first, it felt harmless and it was fun to have the girls be SO INTO it. It was fun for family and relatives and we have all the dress-up stuff you can imagine. One positive has been that my girls happen to be very theatrical and into pretending ANYTHING, so it was just a spring-board. They do dress up like farmer's, mother's, flower ladies, etc. But, it turns out it hasn't been harmless. I really regret letting them get as into it as they have. Mostly because the branding is REALLY everywhere and they're into the movies and characters, so of course, they're into everything Princess. For a while, nothing was as good if it didn't have a Princess on it.

Luckily, they're growing out of it.
We're a mildly crunchy family...slightly soggy, so we do watch TV and movies. DH is really into them seeing all the "classics" (Disney movies)

I will say this....we bought Peter Pan recently, b/c it was re-released. I HATE IT!!! It has so much female insecurity and competition for Peter Pan's attention in it. The first you see of Tinkerbell, she's looking at her reflection in a teapot, which makes her look round and she rubs her hips and then crosses her arms and pouts!! Then, she turns out to be so sassy and pouty and sells out her friend when she's mad at him?!?! UGH! I just hate that we bought it. I usually don't analyze these movies too, too much, but I just thought that one was riddled with every reason I didn't want to watch these in the first place. I didn't remember that from watching it as a kid, of course.
