what do you still need/want for baby?

I stole this thread from the Feb DDC.

I for one would like all of the hand-me-downs promised by my cousins who have thus far seemed to think I will be pregnant forever. Mostly the clothes and sling/carriers is what I would like as I avoided buying these things - counting on the hand-me-downs. Instead I bought things they didn't have or couldn't hand down - like cloth diapers and car seats.

And the crib my in-laws are intending to get us. I don't know when I will really need it, but if it's coming, I would like it here and set up sooner rather than later so that I don't have to think about it.

They are funny, MIL called to say that they had ordered us a crib because her neice had had her baby (3 weeks early, due on the same day as me) and they thought that they should get on that. It was all I could do not to say: "You think?"

I got a beautiful FREE maple changing table off of Craigslist the other weekend and I'ld like to get a cushion for it. I also *feel* like I should get more cloth diapers.... but I think that's more of a want then a need

I need to find a coming-home outfit for him. I am also anxiously awaiting my Babyhawk mei tai!

hmmm...well my aunt is sending an ergo in the mail for me...but that's a want i guess...cause i've got 2 slings, and 2 homemade wraps...

as far as needs...we need to get diapers out of storage...then i'll need to get more snappi fasteners as i'm sure the others are worn out....i'd also like to get some wool soakers, but that's another want cause the newborn bummi whisper wraps we have are in very good shape....i'd also like a diaper sprayer this time...but that's a want...also wanting to ec...and i'd like an infant pot...but i guess the sink/toilet/or a bowl will work just as well

if this one is a boy...we're going to need clothes...if it's a girl...we'll need to get the clothes out and washed.....

and the big one....a carseat...dh is in no hurry to get one though...so, i guess we'll be hanging out at the house awhile...which is fine with me...i've got my eye on the sunshine kids radian 80...which goes from 5 to 80 lbs in the five position harness thing...so, we'll see...

I have friends coming over tomorrow and bringing a truckload of stuff for me to go through. It feels like Christmas!! Their daughter is 4 years old, but they still have a lot of her baby things. We don't know the sex of our baby, so it might be nice to have some girly clothes on hand, just in case--everything we have is neutral.

As far as actually needing things, I've been on an online shopping spree this month and *think* I have it covered now. We are minimalists, so we haven't bought any extra furniture (I cleaned out one of my dressers for the baby...it was my BIL's when he was a child!), but that's it. No crib, no changing table (although my stepdad insists I'll need one!), etc. I've been feverishly washing and rewashing all our cloth diapers, as they say to wash them 4-5 times before using them.

I do need to buy a few things for the actual birth as we're planning a home/waterbirth, but not exactly sure what all we'll need yet.

Oooh...I just thought of something I DO need to buy soon: nursing bras!! Perhaps next week...

I can't think of anything I still need. I'm trying to keep all the baby stuff to a minimum this time. A friend tried to give me a crib and I said no because it would never be used and just take up lots of room. I have some cloth diapers, some baby clothes, 1 pair of Robeez shoes, a Maya sling, 2 wraps, and a ERGO, carseat, bassinet, moses basket, blankets, and my one guilt non-AP thing that I can't live without.......... A mini baby swing : . I did splurg and bought 2 pairs of baby legs and some Weleda baby products that I have always wanted to try. I also scored big time and got 3 Hanna Andersson Pilot caps for $12 total. I'm feeling very set all I need now is a baby. Come on baby, come out, come out, come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want/need to GET RID of the clutter in my house.

Crib Mattress

A few more items of clothing ( I have handmedowns, they might be a little big at first though, we'll see)
Changing Pad
Sling
Diaper pail
The little things like thermometer, manicure set, nasal aspirator etc.
Towels
cloths/burp, wipes etc

Wants:
Rocker/Gliding chair
Hammock for the yard so we can relax under the mango tree. (house gets stuffy and hot during the day)
Changing table
A new washer. (the one we have we use a knife to change settings and I have to fill it up first and agitate a little to get it going. )
Laundry basket ( I get tired carring everything in small loads that I can fit in my hand!)

I also need to clean the nursery up, it is still a mess. Yesterday I took apart the old metal futon frame that was in there. I still have boxes of books, pictures, christmas stuff, a monitor and a TV. The problem is all that stuff is going in the attic and I can't get it up there at the moment! :

The only thing left that I really want (but don't unfortuantly NEED per-se), is a rocking chair... We now have a crib (set up as a side-car crib beside our bed, tis awesome, car seat, stroller, baby carriers, lots of baby clothes (curtesy of friends and my mom mostly), a few blankets, diapers are on the way (bumgenius onesizes' and some disposables newborn size...)... pretty much everything that I can think of really. DH' family even got me the digital camera I wanted, can't wait for it to get here, it'll be sooo awesome to have one again!! (my old one broke the day before I got back from spain last may!!)... So yeah, I've gotten most everything I wanted and then some, so its pretty cool. Now we're just waiting on the little guy

Like I said though, a rocking chair would just be awesome... My dad asked me what else 'big' I wanted/needed a while back and I couldn't think of anything, so maybe I'll have to tell him that. Need to shop around online and see how much they cost really So, yeah... if anybody has rec's for one, lemme know!!

Oh, the biggest thing we need now is a home!! When we return to Maryland after the birth we'll hopefully be moved into a new home, meaning my DH and our friends have moved everything over before he comes down for the birth. My DH found us a house, but still haven't settled everything yet. Cross your fingers!

A mattress for the 'side-car' (it's the antique crib that my great-grandma and grandma used. I even used to nap in it when my granny watched me. beautiful wrought iron, converted easily- but the mattress is a little, um, old.) all I really need is a piece of firm foam and I can sew a cover for it.

I think that is it.

Oh, and the energy and time to build the shelves that I started for my babes six months ago!

I just need some nursing bras. I am so proud of how much I have gotten done the last few weeks!

We are also decluttering and taking huge bags to the thrift store later.
