has anyone talked their doctor into delayed clamping? - Page 2

I just asked about lotus birthing last visit, and the cnm told me she didn't want the baby's blood to "run back in there" or something, but would do a delayed clamp. I figured, heck, I'm pushing an awful lot of boundaries already by my wishes, and next time I'll do a home UC. (just felt uncomfortable doing it that way the first time).

Fortunately, there's a study which seems to back this up. When prevented with good, hard evidence, my OB is pretty darn cool. I don't actually know his position on cord clamping. (bad mom, didn't ask enough questions)

Thanks!

And that's with only 3 minutes of delayed clamping: I plan on not cutting for hours, maybe way longer...

I've just started reading about delayed cord clamping, but I came across [url=http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/cordIssues.html#Cutting]this, which (anecdotally, from what I can tell) suggests that waiting until the placenta is birthed to cut the cord reduced postpartum hemorrage.

I've been a doula for many years and just about all the parents talk to their doc about this at prenatals, put it on the birth plan, doc seems fine with it UNTIL the baby is born. Just about ALL have cut the cord or put their fingers so tight on it to prevent circulation. The ones that haven't cut don't do it only because the dad or I am speaking up and they delay. Most do it anyway though! They make up the excuse that they forgot or that it was done pulsating anyway.

It's obviously done intentionally and planned to be clamped sooo quickly before anyone can say or do anything about it.

that's partially why we asked for dh to hold the cord and feel it pulsating-
