Wednesday's ACIP meeting: "Thimerosal: Reviewing the Evidence" presentation (tsk tsk)

At Wednesday's ACIP meeting, the CDC addressed the use of thimerosal in the influenza vaccine and "reviewed the evidence." Except they didn't present all the evidence. In a nutshell, once again the government insists that thimerosal is safe and is safe for use in vaccines.

Press release from the National Autism Association:

Vaccine discussion excluded peer-reviewed published research documenting harmful effects of the mercury preservative thimerosal

Parents and health advocates are expressing outrage over the recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) that pregnant women, infants and children continue to be exposed to mercury contained in the flu vaccine despite recommendations from the Institute of Medicine that mercury not be injected into these sensitive populations since 2001.

Dr. Jay Lieberman was assigned to present on “Thimerosal, Reviewing the Evidence.” A plethora of peer-reviewed published data documenting the harmful effects of thimerosal on the immune, metabolic and nervous systems in humans and animals is widely available with a simple PubMed data search. But none of this information was mentioned by Dr. Lieberman.

Incidentally, Dr. Lieberman (a pharma consultant) will be an expert witness for the government when the VICP Omnibus Autism Proceeding goes to court in June.

The NAA requested that a "counterpoint speaker" with no conflict of interest be permitted to present current, peer-reviewed toxicological data and the request was denied.

Nothing, but nothing, can be allowed to cast a shadow on the sacred vaccination program. End of discussion.:yawning:

When the agenda for the meeting came out a few weeks ago, I had to laugh because I knew what the outcome would be.

Just imagine what would happen if they recommended, encouraged, ordered, whatever, the removal of thimerosal from the influenza vaccine.

Not only would it economically affect pharma and the influenza vaccination program in terms of manufacture and distribution, but it would undermine confidence in the program in terms of thimerosal use in the other age groups and reduce compliance.

Here's the CDC's justification (and the justification they use in their attempts to squash or limit thimerosal ban legislation on the state level):

The benefits of influenza vaccination far outweigh any "theoretical" risk of thimerosal exposure to pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants, children . . . and adults for that matter. If we remove thimerosal from the influenza vaccine, we will be putting everyone at risk.

This is exactly what the CDC says about thimerosal use in the influenza vaccine.

The EPA says the amount of mercury found in one (1) flu shot cannot be safely processed by someone weighing less than 550 lbs.

From the CDC:

In 1999, family physicians, pediatricians, federal health officials, and vaccine manufacturers stated that because any potential risk from mercury is of concern, and the elimination of exposure to mercury in the form of thimerosal from vaccines is feasible, thimerosal should be removed from vaccines as soon as possible.

It is now 2007 and once again the majority of this year's influenza vaccine supply for pregnant women, infants and children contains "FULL STRENGTH" thimerosal.

AND because the CDC refuses to do anything, in order to protect unborn babies and infants, some legislators on the state level were forced to enact thimerosal ban legislation. And guess who was (and still is) agressively fighting this type of legislation from being passed . . . the CDC and the AAP.

OMG what the F...

This makes me so mad I could spit fire. I feel we have to get the word out to all pregnant women.
