What I noticed this week

I've seen our ped twice this week. Once for ds' 6mo check-up and once as a recheck for his breathing (he's got rsv).

What I really noticed is that now that I don't vax and I question the ped and let him know that I research everything now, he treats me differently. But in a good way. Now he says things like "At this age I usually recommend ____ , what have you decided or what were your thoughts." It is really amazing. We had a rocky period when I went from being a passive momma who didn't know better, to a questioning one, but I really like and appreciate the new way he works with me not just assuming that his way is the only way.

When you demand respect you will get it!

There are some good sayings but I can't think of one right now. But anyway, GOOD FOR YOU.

That's awesome, mama!

Gitti~ We had a GI dr. that we questioned and she basically yelled at us in the hospital. I mean her face was RED and she was so offended that we were questioning her decisions to keep our dd in the hospital....it was awful and she didnt seem to respect us at all

You have to stop those people right away.

You can say, "I demand that you speak to me in a civil manner or that you bring in someone more competent".

I hope you didn't let her get away with it.

When I was a very young mother I ran into a doc who was trying to bully me. He stood up and towered over me. Somehow I summoned all my courage, stood up and told him what was going to be done with my son...

He called me a bad mother. I was livid. I actually pointed my finger at him and threatened him that if he was going to charge me for this office visit, I was going to file a law suit.

Then I walked out and in the car I cried like a baby. I didn't even know I was so shook up. But it did teach me one thing. When I am backed into a corner I come out fighting no matter what or who it is I am fighting.

I have not been afraid of doctors since then. I will always be in charge.

BTW, he never sent me a bill.

You have to overcome. You have to be in charge when it comes to your family. They are yours and they depend on you.

Don't ever be afraid of a doctor. He works for you. Not the other way around.

Thanks Gitti Cant you just come with me to dr's appts? just kidding.......
But seriously, I've stood up to dr's before.....When my grandma was dying, I basically took over and kept paging the dr on call and demanding info and most of the time now, dr's ask me if i'm a nurse or in the medical profession because I "talk like one of them".

I was caught off guard by this GI dr. I felt like she had us with our backs against the wall. I was fearing she would call cps on us. My dd was freaking out and not cooperating with the dr. She wouldnt speak to her. The GI dr. wouldnt let her eat anything because dd had pancreatitis and GI wanted to rest her pancreas...fine. However, we were getting the run around...one dr. would come in and say, "oh she can start eating by tonight" then GI would come in and say "oh no, not even chicken broth". Dd was getting ready to strangle them. We wanted to take dd home and do a follow up with another GI dr. but this dr. said dd could die if we took her home....and that to me screamed "I'm going to call cps if you sign her out AMA".......I need to learn more about the law and how it pertains to medical care with a minor

(sorry op for derailing....but this is probably a good lesson in dr. scaremongering which is very applicable to the vax issue)

It's amazing what people think they can get away with. MIL was in a university medical center for a brain tumor and subsequent complications. FIL was so shook up that he wasn't a good advocate either. Dh has some med experience, enough to talk the talk. He made a couple phone calls and suddenly things started changing and her level of care improved.
