Cloth Handkerchief Suggestions?

I am looking for a way to reduce the amount of kleenex that we go through in this house! Both my DH and I have allergies (mine have lessened considerably since I found a homeopathic remedy ) and DH goes through tissues...well...like kleenex! Please send me links on where to find good, cloth hankies! Is organic cotton better? (I assume so...) Is it possible to make ones own from organic cotton fabric? Please post any information that you think of before DH makes me go to Costco and buy another flat of kleenex!

If you don't mind not getting organic, try goodwill or salvation army. We bought a bunch a couple of years ago at an estate auction. They are monogrammed, but we don't care.

They are decently inexpensive and if you get bored you can always tie dye them. There is nothing cooler than pulling out a tie dyed sneeznex as my dd calls them. My dh even takes them to work I love them and they are much nicer than kleenex in my opinion.

You can cut up old tee shirts and not have to finish the edges since they shouldn't unravel. They're fine for around the house.

I've made a bunch out of 8x8 squares of flannel. Not organic, but cheap and very soft.

I sewed a straight line near the edge and pinked the edge, but I think it would have been better to actually put a tiny hem on the edges. Will do that next time.

eBay has tons of lots for sale, all the time. Just make sure they're not hotel grade. I got mostly old ones and then those. They're treated with some stain preventer and never suck up water (for wiping down el bebe or whatever) the way I want them to, and they're polyester. Yuck.

I've been interested in getting some cloth hankies too. I saw some at the thrift store, but then also heard about this site that sells organic cotton ones: http://www.hankettes.com/qs/category/8/148/0/0

I've got a few hankettes and they are awesome!! But when I had a cold recently & was blowing my nose a million times a day, I cut up a couple old t-shirts and that worked wonderfully too. They were old enough t-shirts that they're super soft & I just cut them into big squares, so much softer on my nose than paper kleenex!!!! They're not gorgeous, but they work, I keep meaning to find the right size basket and then I'm going to put all the t-shirt piece hankies in a basket in our bedroom or bathroom, and keep the hankettes in a basket in the powder room down here (since they look much nicer ), but that way I'll have the basket full upstairs for next time someone in our house has a cold & we need to go through a bunch.

Cut up some outgrown, worn flannel pajamas or t-shirts or whatever. Borrow your neighbor's serger like I do

Off topic but I recently cut the legs off some too small (thank you dd3 preg!) sewed them closed and filled with bulk rice to make a door draft stopper. They want 20 bucks in some catalogs for these.
