Whooping cough stats

My dh is worried that our youngest will contract whooping cough because he's only had the one DTaP so far. He thinks that even though he's 10 months old there's still a chance that it'll be fatal (duh, anything's fatal but I digress). I would like to show him some stats of complications from whooping cough itself and complications from the vaccine. Also something that says the vax reactions are severely underreported. I tried looking up the CDC's Pink Book chapter to start with but it's freezing up my computer for some reason. I do have a copy of Aviva Jill Romm's book, I'm going to look in it later. If you could give me some tips on search words to find old threads that would be great, the little one is teething and sleep hasn't been all that great lately. Thank you all so much!!

Almost all hospitalizations and deaths occur in newborns . . . because they're newborns, not because they're too young to be vaccinated. Unvaccinated toddlers and children also get pertussis, but they don't usually die.

Pertussis deaths are extremely rare AND millions are walking around with mis/undiagnosed pertussis annually.

I don't have all my links because I am traveling but the pertussis vax doesn't prevent pertussis it "might" reduce the effects of the toxin. However because the vaxed babes are not able to cough as significantly there is a theory they are more prone to pnemonia. Hopefully this link works for you http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/...SiteNavigation.

PS my partially vaxed Marah Jade got pertussis. It was scary because I had never seen coughing like that before. Now that I have seen it we don't think it is too bad.

I'm not much help, I was just going to say this is one I REALLY struggle with. I DO NOT want my son to get the whooping cough. He gets a common cold and coughs so much he pukes every hour! I honestly don't know how he would do with WC, I'm positive we'd end up in the hospital as he wouldn't be able to keep anything down. BUT, I don't believe the vaccine is effective at all. And it's the scariest vaccine to me. So I won't allow him to have it.

Sometimes I wish vaccines were the miracle cures everyone exclaims them to be. That would make my life so much easier. But, they aren't.

how do you know your son has not had WC??? I bet he has.... esp if he has coughed hard enough to puke ever hr.. I don't know, but I am sure he has at leat been exposed to it...

besides, vased or not , pretty much everyone will get WC at some point (rarely DX in the vaxed tho!!! imagine that?)
