Such a sweet baby:

big sister loves her little brother (although she did ask me if it was possible for him to go ahead and turn into a girl now

And about 36 hours before he was born, I was able to get mt dh to take a few pictures of the belly so I would have something other than those bathroom mirror self-portraits (I probably won't leave these up long though

Some of the details I forgot to mention before, if you are interested...
I had been having contractions for many weeks, sometimes as often as every 4-5 minutes, but they always went away at bedtime. I had those as usual the night before he was born (indistinguishable from any other evening bout of contractions), and they did go away when I went to sleep at 10pm, but this time during every contraction I had been saying "You can come on and be born if you want... it's all right." Just that day I had finished the last thing on my list of things to do before baby was born, so I finally felt ready. I was disappointed when I fell asleep and they went away.
I also had a number of occasions when I would wake up around 2 or 3 am to some really intense contractions that would get as close as 2 minutes apart. I always came just short of calling the mw to have her come out because I really didn't want to inconvenience her in the middle of the night, and besides I knew she would want to check me. I was resistant to being checked and she would have respected that, but I would have felt too guilty calling her and having her drive all the way to my house in the middle of the night and then not let her check me. (I had tried checking myself but couldn't really figure anything out!
) So when I woke up to the same intense, close-together contractions two hours before he was born, I figured they would go away again like usual. Two things I did different though -- I decided I was paying my mw enough to be inconvenienced in the middle of the night and that getting checked wasn't the end of the world, and I also said things during the contractions like "open, open" and "get out of the way and let your body do this". (Previous incantations had been more like "Oh no, no no, I'm not ready, please stop!"
) However, they felt absolutely NO different from other nights, so I guess it was just sort of luck that I had called the mw out. Of course, like I mentioned in my announcement thread, by the time the mws got there, I knew it was it and I pushed him out shortly thereafter.
This kind of labor is so weird -- I don't know whether to call it really really short or really really long
Also wanted to let you know I loved my beads -- thank you to the mamas that participated in the swap
And I was so proud of my little dd. When dd woke up, it was a few minutes after I had started pushing. She immediately declared "You are pushing the baby out! You are doing a great job! This is hard work, huh?" And then she calmly made commentary until baby was out. She was so excited, she wanted to cut the cord and hold him and help and bring diapers and it was just really sweet. My MIL had previously told me she thought it would be way too traumatic to have dd at the homebirth
: and I absolutely relished telling this story when MIL asked us how dd handled it
.
Good luck mamas -- you will be holding your babes so soon!!
