Introduction

I posted this in the "getting to know you" section, but because I will probably be spending quite a bit of time in this forum, and because this is such a large site, I thought I would paste it in here, too, also in the section for parents of teens..

This is such a big site that it will take a long time to get to know most folks, and I know the same will be true for you-me, as well. Nonetheless, I know how important introductions are.

My husband is 37, I am 36 years old, parents of a 16 YO son and a 14 YO son, both my biological sons. Hubby and I have been married for 17 years, now! Just this past week we submitted our initial paperwork to pursue international adoption, hopefully from Guatemala.

We live in northern Illinois, about 90 miles due west of Chicago but in a very rural community. We are now living in town, but this is recent. Up until December '06 we were living on five acres in the country. It is a VERY long saga, so please suffice it to say that our house was a wreck and we had exhausted our options with it. Now we are townies again, at least for awhile. Facing college expenses has been a real sobering experience for us!

We are Bible-believeing Christians who believe in a worldview, for ourselves as well as our children. I, more than the rest of my family, am also a strong advocate for environmental health, from our own backyards to our public state and national parks to the world. This always comes with moderation, though, since I am also a realist.

So, that is me, in a nutshell! I am not extremely private, but don't always ( ) go blabbing everything about myself, so if you have a question about me or need a clarification of something I have said, please speak up!

I am happy to be here for support while my teenagers continue to bewilder me on a daily basis! :

Blessings,
Greenhaven

Welcome to the boards Greenhaven with a special welcome to the Teens forum. Thanks for the introduction, I think it's a great idea. I know I don't always hang out in the Getting to Know You forum and it's nice to know who I am talking to

Welcome. I am a bible believing Christian too!!! We raise our kids only on the biblical priciples(teach your children in the way that they should go and they will never depart from it) and training my kids to take care of their bodies (love your neibor as YOURSELF) And to love the environment, but to mostly love the God that created all of this,.......Welcome

Welcome. I live 90 miles southwest of Chicago - we must be reasonably close, no?

My own oldest is 18 now, and away at college, and I have a 12 year old girl too, who keeps me in this forum!

Doctorjen, I bet you are pretty close! Are you fairly near a large city? (besides Chi-Town! Ha!) How near? We are about 25 miles SW of Rockford.

Welcome! I am 53 and my husband is 58. We have two teens, Cory 16 (boy) and Cara, nearly 14. They came to us by adoption(U.S.) as newborns. I have some measure of open adoption in both situations. Cory's birthdad is Mexican. We have an adorable dog, Missy, German Sheppard mix, age 2.5 and seven cats. I also have a biological son from my first marriage, Bill. He is 31 and lives in the Portland, Oregon area.
We have lived on five acres of woods, fifteen miles northwest of Gainesville, Fl.for over ten years. This is three hours north of Orlando. It IS expensive and requires lots of drving. My son drives now so I am not drivng as much. My husband commutes two hours (round trip) to his job as a computer programmer at University of Florida. My daughter is on a travel volleyball team and so this is tons of drivng. Practices are nearly an hour each way. Social stuff is alwasy one half hour away(one way) I have considered getting a place in town but for now,not doing it. I love the beauty and solitude of these woods.
Faith, spirituality is very important to me. Living as natural as possible is also very important to me. Both my husband and I are vegetarian. I am into homeopathy, massage, accupuncture, and chirpractic to keep me heathy and balanced. I try to live as positvely as possible but also try to remain realsitic and flexible. I have homeschooled all along except for one year when they were 6 and 9.
I have been on this board since August, 2006 and it has been a great help in the joys and challenges with my terrfic teens. Sallie

Sallie, I spent my teen years in central Florida! I graduated from Osceola High School in Kissimmee in the late '80's.

How changed it has become in the years since!

We have a few things in common. First, I'm new to this board.
I'm a Christian as well and have teens - a 16 y/o ds and a 13 y/o dd.
I'm also interested in environmental issues.

Seems like we DO have plenty of things in common! I tried to PM you but your "link" wasn't working for me.

It's so nice to "meet" you all!

Hmm, I wonder why it wasn't working. I just tried clicking on my name and I was able to access the private message box. Try again?
