Nitrous Oxide and pregnancy?

The discussion in the epidural thread about nitrous oxide has made me curious. I have to see the dentist soon. I'm pretty sure I have another cavity in my lower right jaw. I can't leave it until I have this baby (probably around Halloween), so I'll have to have the work done while I'm pregnant.

What I'm curious about is the effect of nitrous oxide on a baby-under-construction. Does anybody have any info on this? I generally have cavities filled without freezing, and I do find that the nitrous oxide takes the edge off.

how far along are you? If it's in early pregnancy I'd forgo. Information on this site ( http://www.justsayn2o.com/nitrous.dangers.html ) indicates that it interferes with folic acid and can lead to neural tube disorders as well as some other things I wouldn't want to expose baby to.

I had dental work with my youngest while pregnant (a tooth with a permament replacement surface crumbled) and they were able to give me an ephedrine free shot (some 'caine' but not lidocaine) that only numbed it about 1 hour which was long enough for the procedure and that's what mattered.

At the moment, I'm about six weeks!

I'll check out that site. I really don't want freezing - I've always hated being numb, even more than being in pain, and having had two unwanted spinals and permanent numbness in my abdomen and pelvis has pushed that preference to a probably unhealthy level.

hmm...that site looks like I'd probably be okay for a 20-30 minute dental procedure, but...

I wish it were easier to find concrete answers about this stuff. I really should have had this stupid tooth looked at about two months ago, but everyone was sick over Christmas and I just forgot. *sigh*
