My Worst Nightmare Has Happened - Page 2

Try united way's first call for help. You can google for the local number, but it might just be 211. They're a central clearing house for assistence for all kinds of things and can put you in touch with the best community resources in your city for food, shelter assistence and help with bills.

This is definitely a situation where I would let the cc bills slide for a month or two. Call them and tell them what you are doing. Then, assuming your cell phones have caller ID, just don't pick up on any unfamiliar numbers (to avoid collectors calling). Obviously it's not a long-term solution, but it sounds as though this hole is only temporary until the house sells. Short-term it's most important to keep up your own food, shelter, utilities and transportation.

Just an fyi-

Credit cards/ cell phones/ car payments can go a month before they go onto your credit report. You can pay them 29 days late and they wont effect your credit score. I would definately put those off, but no later than 29 days....

your dh is being silly about the cable but mine is the same way!

Depending on the credit situation, would it be possible for him to take out a 2nd mortgage on the house? (to pay off cc and living expenses)

It sounds like there is going to be profit when the house sell. Are you sure the ex does not want to buy it? Instead of giving her $60K when it sells, she can buy the house (with a $30K or $60K discount) and get a mortgage in her own name.

If there is NO profit in the house, call the bank and ask them to take it back. Like a foreclosure, but you hand it back voluntarily and stop making payments today. While the EX won't like this, if your partner has no money, what can she do about it?

I would not recommend that, getting behind even for one month is so hard to catch up. Plus if you pay late on a CC there is often times a late payment fee, which often times gets added to the balance causing an over balance fee.

Not sure how it is in your state, but here you can qualify for WIC with a pretty high income. We did at $20K for a family of 3.

Once a week we go to Dover ( I am in Smyrna) to a discount grocery store called Byler's. I can buy a cart full of groceries for around 50.00. That includes some organic and all natural snacks.

Do you own or rent in Middletown? Have you thought about moving to Kent county? Especially since the price of housing in Middletown has skyrocketed.

Oh, the 50.00 at Byler's lasts my family of 4 for 2 weeks.
