I loved Judy Bloom books, but I remember they were quite controversial in the community I grew up in and we couldn't get them at the library. It might be better to steer away from them in this instance unless you are sure the parents aren't going to have issues with it. My parents were totally cool with it, but many of my friends were not allowed to read it.
