Me too! In fact, of the 8 or so docs I'd only met three of them and was supposed to meet the fourth at my 19w appt. I really hated the idea of potentially only meeting the doctor at my birth once or twice (if that!).

I switched at 35 weeks, best decision I could've made. After the switch, I couldn't believe I'd waited so long to do it!

I switched from an OB to a midwife at 35 weeks. Best decision I've EVER made.

I'm actually on my second switch.

When I first became pregnant, I just called my regular gynecologist and started going there. It's a very nice upscale office and she was nice enough, but on the two visits I went there, I waited an hour to spend less than 10 minutes with her. I knew this wasn't for me.

So, I switched to CNMs at a local hospital. This was better, but still not as great as I was learning was possible. (I had been reading Ina May and the like.) Once one of the midwives left and they announced that OBs would be doing all the deliveries, I decided to go the homebirth route. I met with a licensed midwife at her house this week (28 weeks) and it was WONDERFUL!!! She spent over an hour with me and it was so much more friendly. She gave me tons of tips and info. I'm very happy with my provider-hopping!

Yep, yep, yep!!!! I changed from OB group/Hospital birth plan to hb mw at 32 weeks... Best decision EVER!!! Am now 2 days o/d and feel much more positive about how my mw will handle it than the possibility of being "induced" in the hospital:

do what feels right....this is your birth!

I just did

This is my first pg, I'm 34w, and as of last Monday decided on a mw for our hb. yay!!! Although I am still receiving co-care at the birth center with the midwives there, as that is covered by insurance.

My original plan was to continue seeing my gynecologist, who I loved. She was the first medical professional who talked to me like a human being and payed attention to what I said. She let me do basic things myself, like weighing myself on the scale. How patronizing that they usually think you can't even read a scale. She would talk to me about scientific studies she had read and things like that, as if I am an intelligent person who could understand. Her card said she was an OB too, so I called to make an appointment.

Unfortunately, she stopped practicing obstetrics. I can understand why she would stop. She is getting up there in age, and it must be stressful. Also, it involves being on call all night. Gynecology has more predictable hours. And if she can earn enough money just on gynecology, it makes sense.

So, I found another OB. But, I didn't feel comfortable with her.

Then, I found a HB MW. I met her when I was about 14-15 weeks. Then I called the OB and told them I am transferring out of the practice.

I started off w/an OB group and then around ~32 wks. also began to see the mw's. I had co-care until 38 wks (so that insurance paid for all of the testing/bloodwork) at which time I terminated care w/the OBs and saw only the mw until a few weeks pp.

I switched from my OB to a midwife at about 23 weeks. It was a hard decision because my Mom and sister's both go to the OB as well. She's the only doctor I had ever been to and she was my OB for my first pregnancy and delivery. I felt guilty even thinking about leaving her because I really like her as a person and for GYN just not for the OB side of things. I switched to a cnm who has rights at a hospital and she was VERY hands off and my family got to be in the room including my 3 yr old daughter. I even went out of state to have her attend me. Best decision I ever made!
