I am going to try to make my dd some simple wool shorts to serve as diaper covers for the summer. I'm working with recycled wool sweaters. I've made longies from the sleeves so I have the body of the sweater. I don't want to make a soaker and then add legs; I want them to look more like basic knit shorts with an elastic waist. Anyone able to direct me to a (free) simple pattern? I have a pair that I am trying to make a pattern from but I'm just not good at that - I have a hard time visualizing the pattern into the final product. And, I don't want to cut up her one good pair of shorts in order to figure out a pattern. Or, if someone could send me a photo of fabric that is cut out and ready to make shorts, so I can get a visual? Thanks!

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

What about going to a thrift store and finding a pair of shorts that you like the style of and then cutting THEM up? They are usually pretty cheap there and if you catch it on half price day they would be even cheaper!

Oh mama, no need to cut up shorts!!! Take your DD's RTW shorts that fit, fold them in half, and trace them onto a piece of paper (like a brown grocery bag). Now add whatever seam allowance you feel comfy w/ (I like to use 1/2in) all around them, except the top and bottom. At the top, add enough for an elastic casing (I add 1 1/4in so I can fold under the raw edge and have a 1" casing). At the bottom, add a hem allowance (again, I use 1 1/4in). Now the straight edge of the pattern will go along the fold of your "fabric".
Pin and cut.
Sew the inseam on each leg.
Like the longies, turn one leg rightside out, put inside the other leg so right sides are together and sew the crotch seam.
Turn completely inside out, sew the elastic casing and the hem.

How about the flat pants pattern from here: http://home.pacbell.net/kapleo/blog/...epatterns.html
(scroll)
I just like how they fit over CDs but I haven't made them myself.
