dd digestive problems, IBS? Celiac? Food allergy?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to post her symptoms to see if any of your kids have the same thing, or if you have any idea what this could be. I've spent alot of time researching online, and you know how that can make you think things are alot more serious than they are. We plan on having food allergy testing, and have recently cut out dairy.

extreme cramping in her stomach after eating, not as bad with no dairy, but still there.

Yellow-whitish stuff in stool-- don't know if it's fat or mucous.

sometimes the extreme pain after eating leads to vomiting, but not often.

She's been tested for heliobactor, and we plan on having the RAST testing for allergies, but I can't stand to see her hurting. Is there a test for celiac? Does this sound like anything any of you guys have seen? She's not wanting to eat to avoid the cramping...
Thanks

Poor baby.

I know there is a blood test for Celiacs but it's not completely accurate from what I hear. The better test would be an endoscopy with biopsy but I wouldn't do that unless you have ruled out everything else.

How long has it been going on?

I'm going to move this to allergies, as I think you'll get the best advice and support there....

I certainly seems like it could be allergies, probably gluten. I'd take her off it ASAP, and also start on probiotics.

It's been going on for at least a year, but didn't get really bad until about 2 months ago. I took her to her ped and she tested her for heliobactor and (tried to) put her on an acid reducer. I did NOT give her the acid reducer because I know that won't help this problem. Her digestive issues are in the lower digestive tract and an overabundance of acid would not cause that...

My next step is to take her to an allergy specialist a few hours away to check that out. I know for a fact dairy is the worst one, she cramps up SO badly if she gets any of it. I feel also like gluten is a problem. We are taking her off that now.

I started her on probiotics about 2 months ago. I hope that's helping some. It's so hard.....I hate to tell her it's time to eat and she says she doesn't ever want to eat again. It's not fair to her. I hope with the dietary changes things will clear up.

Thanks for your ideas mamas. I'd still like to hear more, if anyone has any more input.

p.s. I think all this is due to vax. I didn't know about vax when she was a baby so she had all of them. When we moved the navy lost her med records and we were told she had to get ANOTHER round of all the vax so we could have a record of it. I'm banging my head on a wall about that now.... Since I found out about vax we haven't done any more and won't vax any of our kids.

wish I'd known then.......

It sounds like you are being a great advocate for her! Maybe follow what the other moms are suggesting about probiotics and taking out gluten. I would try to avoid the top six allergens, especially dairy and soy.

If you the allergy testing with the doctor, ask what the doctor thinks about the various testing methods: skin patch, skin prick, blood tests.

My dd has done both skin tests and had different results because they are different types of allergy antibodies that are reactiong (immediate and delayed). She ended up being dx with allergic eosinophilic esophagitis. It does occur throughout the digestive tract and will cause diarrhea, mucous, pain, etc. If you are not able to rule out the simpler types of allergies and see results with time and probiotics, a biopsy can rule out or dx the eos disease as well as celiacs and look for other problems at the same time. I would recommend this only as a last resort, but for my dd it really did provide the answers we were looking for.

It is very possible that it is Celiacs, as that also can make a person intolerant of dairy until the gluten is taken out of the diet and the digestive tract heals.

Do any of you have any idea how long it takes the digestive tract to heal?
It probaby depends on what is the problem . . . the Healing Your Gut tribe would know more. My dd's condition will take 6 weeks to 6 months to heal.
