Ahh, this pregnancy is really trying my patience. I been in bed since yesterday afternoon and am about to go back to bed in a few minutes. I am trying to stay positive but really, I am feeling depressed, worn down and not myself. Help me stay positive ladies!

I will try to reply to the other posts this afternoon...

Thanks for asking. He's still in critical condition and in ICU. They brought him off of sedation and tried to take him off the ventilator a couple of times. It worked the second time but I don't know if he's still off of it. He hasn't been awake enough to open his eyes or anything. I think he's now in a halo (like Christopher Reeve had to wear). I don't know any more info right now. His wife is staying by his side so we don't get updates as often as I'd like. Of course, I would do the same in her shoes. It stinks that hospitals there don't even have computer access in the cafe.

ya know, if that 'opnion' piece were written about any other religious group, we'd probably end up hearing about it on the floor of Congress. why is blatant bigotry OK in certain circumstances? blech.

Hey, Zeus

Ode - sending your friends loads of healing vibes. such a scary situation for him and his wife. do they have little ones? also, i don't know about in the UK, but here OSHA regs require fall protection - if regs are the same there, and his employer didn't provide him with it (or with proper training on how to use it), there are definitely grounds for a suit. do they have worker's comp there? he would certainly have a claim. companies here are required to carry workers comp insurance for exactly that type of accident. DH has a masters in safety so i know way more than i should about this stuff.... i know lawsuits and insurance claims don't make his condition any better, and i'm not a big one for lawsuits in general, but when someone's life is altered so severely because of a total lack of proper job safety, they deserve to be compensated for that, IMO.

brendon - pregnancy can be such a drain. just keep reminding yourself of that tiny little spirit who needs you for absolutely everything. and even though pregnancy feels like it goes on forever sometimes, it really is such a short period of time. and of course my answer to everything : - do some yoga. just a few restorative poses held for a couple of minutes each. focus on breath and let your body soften and relax. it really can help a lot.

OMGourd! I haven't posted in a pagans thread in forever. My birthday's coming up (22nd, I usually just celebrate my birthday on the 21st or whenever the equinox is, since my birthday is right on top of it), so YAY! I haven't done anything for my birthday since DD was born. The year she was concieved I got my chest tattoo http://www.digital-witch.net/oldstuff/tat.jpg for my birthday (yes, it spells out NEOMA in theban)

I want to do something this year but I have no idea what! We're saving money to take a cross country trip and move to Cali. My husband is agnostic (at best, lol) and I want to include him of course. But I would like it to be a renewal of faith, as this time of year always is. Since my DD has been born, I've left my beliefs and practices by the wayside, and that makes me kind of sad.

Hey all. I ordered the kids book
Mr & Mrs God in the Creation Kitchen. I got it on amazon for $5 (new!).
It came today and I just read it to ds. We love it!!!!!!!!!! We giggled and had a great time naming all the creatures, etc. Lots of fun! Thank you to mamaofthree for mentioning the book!

OHHH $5.00 on amazon! Cool. I got it at our local library. Just cracked me up. I loved the part where Mrs. God doesn't talk to Mr God for 1000 years. For some reason that just got me laughing.
It reminds me of a book that my dad would read to my brother and I it was about an old guy and his donkey, but everytime my dad would read it he would just end up howling with laughter, he could hardly get thru it. As a kid, I just didn't get it. Now I am doing the same thing with this book. It cracks me up.

Sounds like that belonged on someone's blog rather than an actual newspaper etc. Really absurd that he managed to get that published actually.. although I do have to agree with him on the double parking in the cul de sac (MY neighbors do it too : ) AND the evil that is crushed velvet harem pants...

Hi, mamas! So did any of y'all read the NYT piece on the common and NOT Celtic or Anglo-Saxon ancestry of the Irish, Welsh, English, and Scottish folks? I thought it was so interesting. I especially like the ending, where the scientist is talking about how cultural (versus genetic) difference is really the thing that keeps us together or apart anyway.

So I started charting this month for the first time, and was really getting into it, having fun, getting to know my body and its rhythms and signs, etc. Then this morning, my chart turned up a very likely pregnancy. I was like, say WHAT? Now, it says very clearly in the "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" book that you should chart a few cycles before relying on any fertility signs as definitive. But you know how it is. I said to myself, "You're a bright girl. You can apply everything you read in those 600 pages to your FIRST chart; no problem!" Time will tell, mamas. Specifically, 15 days or so will tell. Either way, I consider myself duly chastised and humbled by the fertility gods and goddesses!

Honeytree: I was just thinking about you and was going to come here and ask if anyone had heard from you. How is that cute little Woody doing?

I read that piece. I have taken part in the DNA testing for my family and have read WAY too much about it.

The part where they say the Angles and Saxons were Vikings is very untrue. Every scientific and DNA test done shows a clear divide.

And all of the linguists I have heard have shown very convincing evidence that English is a much newer language than what the article proposes. At least for England. It has evolved dramatically due to the exposure to more recent conquerings obviously.

Basically, the jury is still out. They have some interesting points, but I have yet to see evidence that truly supports it.

I wanted to share a funny quote about raising kids from Kurt Vonnegut Jr. It just makes me smile.

Hello, Babies. Welcome to Earth.
It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
It's round and wet and crowded.
At the outside, Babies, you've got about a hundred years here.
There's only one rule that I know of, Babies:
"God damn it, you've got to be kind."

Hello, mamaofthree!!! Woody boy is doing fabulously, and thank you for asking! I'm reading this good book right now called Momma Zen by Karen Maezen Miller, and it is totally helping me to notice and appreciate and love every single moment with my child. I am in constant awe of this timeless thing, this motherhood. Sixteen months into it, and I still feel the glow, like everything is new and out-of-this-world (if messy and challenging, too!). How are things in the hot hot West?

Greenlee, if I ever get around to making a baby book, that quote is going on the front page! Thanks for sharing.

Greenlee: Your family is lovely! Thank you for sharing the pictures. And you look nothing like I thought you did. LOL

Honeytree: I have been trying very hard to slow down and notice stuff lately. My two youngest are a good reminder about this.

OK Gotta get the pizza out of the oven!

Honey Tree~ So nice to have you here! I'm going to have to read Momma Zen!

Greenlee~ great quote!

Well, mamas, my 95 year old grandmother is in the hospital. She just didn't wake up this morning. Seems she has a bladder infection but they don't know why she is not conscious. She is a lovely, strong woman. I can only hope I am as healthy as her into my 90s. Last year she was white washing her basement (! :0 ) and going out two evenings a week to play dominoes. Please send some love and light to Margaret in PA.

Salvia: UTI's can totally knock out an older person, usually once the infection is gone or they are on ABT the person wakes up and is ok. I hope that is the case with your grandma. My great grandma lived a long life she was in her late 90's when she passed away (that was years and years ago... I was like 11 I think). She lived on her own the whole time and baked and cleaned and played bingo, and loved WWF wrestling!apparently she would sit in the front row and yell for blood! What a crazy lady, she was a hoot. She was so wrinkly when I was a kid that my brother and I called her krinkly grandma.

I saw one just the other day that was the actual metal decal like the Jesus Fish . . . except that it was shaped like a penis and said "Freud" on the inside.

Today was DD's first birthday. I am amazed at how quickly the time has flown (I know that sounds like a cliche; I can't help myself). Still feeling raw with thoughts of the c-section, but getting by.

Hugs and positive vibes to all who need it . . . lots of soothing energy to Brendon for dealing with the trials and tribulations of pregnancy.

Healing vibes going her way, I hope she responds well to treatment and is awake soon Mamaofthree is right, older people react very atypically to infections etc and sometimes it just doesn't seem to make sense does it

Salvia-
Birth Junky- Hope you had fun with DD on her birthday. (I can relate to c-section thoughts/regrets. I still get mad and feel guilty...even though it was supposedly an emergency section).
