Hi Mamas,

Wondering if you can help me out with this, as I'm now extremely confused...

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=625919

Basically, what's best to wrap a newborn in--cotton, wool, fleece, something else?

Thanks from a crazy mama...

Personally, I used the flannel receiving balnkets when they are tiny newborns and don't move a lot. They are warm but thin and I don't care if there's leaky diaper or spit up on them. Then as they get bigger and more mobile, I switch to my bigger, thicker, nicer blankets. I have several thermal (the waffle-types ones) that I actually don't really like, plus the cotton knit ones.

I don't really have super strong opinions about blankets - really, they are kind of a pain, always coming off and constantly getting dirty. I try to dress the baby appropriately so that a blanket is only needed for going outside when it's cold or windy. I guess I'm lucky that DD outgrew any need for swaddling really quickly - or else got her swaddling fix from our KK adjustable fleece pouch.

Eeehhh, I had some of each (except I never had wool ones...) and found different ones convenient at different times. I found the flannel most useful though, they swaddled tighter for me & were versatile as a burp rag, changing table cover, etc. Mostly we just kept baby dressed comfortably.

I agree with the pps. I hate blankets, over all. I would much rather dress the baby warmly. When I do need to use a blanket the flannel blankets work best for all of the reasons the pps mentioned.

My niece had to be bundled up quite a bit when she was first born because she was early and was having trouble keeping warm. I was scared to death she was going to slip right out and I'd be standing there holding nothing but a wad of blankets!
