March Decluttering Challenge! (think Spring!) - Page 5

Seeing your goals and progress posted gives me encouragement to jump in!

I'm in for the basement. We have a frightening number of bank boxes--148 to be exact, plus 3 tea cartons and lots of miscellaneous stuff--covering most of our basement. And worse, most of the boxes are filled with a jumble of stuff with no rhyme or reason.

How did we get here?!? Some boxes we packed in a hurry and stored when we moved overseas once, then we brought new stuff back, more boxes that we stored when we went back overseas, and 18 new boxes that came back with us this fall, plus 15 boxes of dh's papers and treasures that mil brought in Jan from her basement. Mil is coming for another visit in April and bringing the rest of dh's belongings (I haven't dared asked how much is left)

My goals for March:

1. 600 items out

2. get down to 50 bank boxes

This will mean being ruthless with my stuff and getting dh involved since most of the "treasures" are his. I'm going to try to bring a box per night up to him to sort through.

Progress so far:

-box of 10 VHS movies left out with "free" sign on it
-2 packs of flash cards and 1 mega madlibs given to my teacher neighbor
-a box of 26 books freecycled
-16 other items freecycled
-4 bags of junk trashed
-3 bags of recycling

Well, so far, each time I've done this, I haven't met my goal, but I'm not giving up! I'm carrying over some of the defecit from last month, and adding a few things from the bedroom challenge.

-7 bags of "stuff" (anything) to be given away

-10 pairs of shoes to be given away

-25 pieces of clothing to be given away or sold for cheap

-5 bags of papers to be recycled or shredded (I know that sounds nuts, but I am a major paper collector, a habit I'm desperately trying to break!)

Okay, so far I've listed on freecycle and/or given away already:

1 lingerie dresser (YAY!)
1 box of babyproofing supplies
3 large bags of clothing
1 bag of bras (!)
1 spice rack
1 bag baby toys and clothes
1 bag old toiletries
1 duffel bag
old batteries
5 very old jars of rancid nut oils (aromatherapy stuff - way in the back of a shelf in the bedroom)
a tape recorder
a big tupperware bin

More to come! Wheeeeeeee!!!

16/500

I got rid of some old egg cartons (we have chickens).

DS seems to be having a growth spurt these days. Shirts that fit last week are belly shirts now. I'll be washing then donating a bunch this weekend.

Maybe DH will clean out some old textbooks. I'll also go at the filing cabinet again.

20 pieces of junk mail that accumulated on the counter I was able to throw away. so 120/300

I also since I was there grabbed the rest and filed it away.

Why is it that when I'm decluttering, somehow the world knows and conspires against? Dh came home with a box of stuff some guy had given him - jigsaw puzzles and games. I did keep three games (Sequence, Stay Alive, and Scrabble), but will donate the rest. Sheesh. And my mom is coming tomorrow, and I'm sure she has stuff for the kids.

But the games did inspire progress. They needed a home. They are not living on my side of our closet. So I cleaned out the upper part of the entertainment center to stash them in. Wow - I had forgotten how many stacks of paper I had decluttered to the Ent.Ctr. And while I was doing that, dh went and cleared out his nightstand and part of the pile of stuff next to our bed. I didn't count what he got out, but it was most of a trash bag of stuff. Yay!

So, not counting dh's trash cleanup, I am at 439/750 !!!! Wahoo - and I'm not stopping when I hit my goal! I am so loving the way my living room and kitchen are looking. My son's EarlyStart teacher even commented on how the living room looks like adult space now. It's so much more peaceful when the clutter is gone.

This is decluttering, but not getting rid of, but I was so excited I had to share. We just moved Clara's exersaucer: (I know I know, someone gave it to us, she didn't really use it much) to the basement! I totallly feel that the living room is SO much more adult now! We just have her bouncer (she naps there) and her high chair left! YEA! So I don't think I can count that since we are probably going to keep it for the next one, but I was excited to have it out of the living room!

I'm late to join. But I'm joing anyhow.

I have two goals.

one to sort through the crap in my garage where I have been tossing everything I want out for the last couple months. It has to sort into craiglist stuff, garbage, keep for garage sale stuff and goodwill.

my second goal is to get rid of 200 items. not including any if the stuff already in the garage.
I'm starting with a low number because dh hates to part with anything.

I'm joining this one... I was gung ho in Feb, but after a week life caught up with me and I stopped.

I am going for 300 items in March. This was my Feb goal that I never saw...

Happy decluttering all!

oh my............. do I belong here!!!!!! glad I am not alone!
I'm not sure how to set my goals but what I think I will do is work room by room and tackle the clutter that way.
#1 - laundry room!!!!! organize, give away outgrown baby clothes, pack away outgown toddler clothes

103 items today. Dang that feels good.

They are all already in a bag in my car for goodwill, or in the trash. Putting them in the garage until I am ready to make the goodwill run is the number one reason that the garage is the most cluttered room in the house.

More importantly, I've spent all day today actually doing something productive, including time spent playing with Ellie.

Off to tackle the junk pile by the phone.

6 icky cleaners to a friend who uses them (I thought I was rid of them all, but I forgot about the samples that came w/my dishwasher and stove)

1 table to freecycler

off to update my sig...

I'm in for 100 items!

May I just grumble for a moment?

I've spent all day decluttering. I've been ruthless. I was proud of myself, and told my dh as he was driving home.

His response?

"you didn't get rid of anything of mine, did you? Anything important?"
