Dh Bought Me A New Sewing Machine!!

I couldn't figure out what Dh was lugging in a box when he came home today until I saw "Janome" stamped on the side! I love that man...he said he'd noticed how frustrated I've been trying to use the old, broken machine we have and just wanted to do something nice for me

He wasnt sure what to buy, but the local dealer will let you "trade up" and apply the full retail value of you past machine every three months. So I get to try it out for three months, at which point I can either get a fancier machine (doubtful Im a sewing newbie) OR Dh suggested that I buy a serger.

What do you ladies think of Janome machines? Serger reccomendations? I am so excited to actually have a machine that works properly!!!!!!!

My dh just bought me a new machine yesterday also! Our dealer does the same thing. He actually bought me a used Kenmore that is the same as the $1400 Janome in the store. The owner of the shop told him they're the same machine with same motor, etc... in them and that I could trade up if I didn't like it and mine was $399 and the guy really likes Janome! I think I'll be getting a serger there soon as well! Once we get un packed.

I don't know much about Janomes except I have a friend who has one and she loves her Janome Serger.

I've looked at the Bernina & Husqvarna Vikings also.

From talking with the local guy all are good machines and he recommended going with a brand that you've got a local dealer that you can talk to and take it to if you need help or repairs or just general maintenance and cleaning!

He said that Janome and Baby Lock were the 2 best in his opinion. but Baby Locks start at about $1200 and you can get a Janome 204D for $299 and a 1110X for $499.

My dh bought me a Kenmore (made by Janome) today for my birthday! I got sp excited reading the manual when we got home I had butterflies in my stomach. I can't wait to sew with it! This model got great reviews and the salesman at Sears (who was wonderful) seemed to genuinely like Janome motors. Either that or he was a really good salesman.

amy - that is what I got also - a Kenmore Limited Edition (which is the same motor, parts, etc... as Janome)

My husband bought me a new machine for the holidays. Unfortunately the man knows nothing about machines and bought a Singer that does absolutely nothing. My 15 year old Bicor is a better machine. At least you guys have husband's who ask for advice.

Sigh.

I'm sewing through four thicknesses of felted wool by hand right now. I've haunted Goodwill looking for a used one (ANYthing) for the past year.

What a nice dh!

I'm jealous! Of the machine, not the hubby. (I've got one of them!)

My MIL has a Janome, and I LOVE that. I'm using a Brother Pacesetter, which I do like... and I just got myself a cheap serger -- which is actually better than I expected.

What a nice surprise! Enjoy your new machine.

I got a Brother 1034D. I paid $190 for a brand new one via eBay. SO WORTH IT! It's a great little workhorse. Super easy to thread. I'm happy with it for the cost!
