4 wks PP, could I get pg?

Hey mamas, my baby's a month old and my SO and I just started having sex again. Today the condom broke and we didn't notice until we finished. I'm breastfeeding 90% off the time, we're still supplementing our preemie at night. What are my odds of getting pregnant again? TIA

Dunno the odds, but it is possible. My friend has a sister that is 10 months, 1 week younger than her.

Not sure of the odds, but yes, you can get pregnant. Even if your first post-partum AF has not started yet, you can (and almost always do) ovulate before that first AF anyway. So yes, it's very possible. Especially if you aren't breastfeeding 100% of the time, though 90% helps your chances of not getting pg, it's very possible.

Yup! My MIL was nursing and yet my SIl and BIL are something like 9.5 months apart. Not sure what the odds are though. do you still have PP bleeding? I know lochia is considered any bleeding for the first 60 days. That may lessen your chance. Not sure though.

It's possible but highly unlikely.

I think there is a mama on MDC here who got pregnant 2 weeks postpartum (if I remember correctly her baby was in the NICU??) so it's definitely possible but I would think highly unlikely as well.

Strawberry, you're thinking of Sehbub. It was either 2 or 4.5 wks post partum that she got pregnant (can't remember which). So it's possible. She just had her 2nd.
I think it's pretty rare though.

So I'm confused about Appendix C in "Taking Charge of your Fertility." There's the "Lactational Amenorrhea Method" that says you don't have any rules as long as your menses haven't started (menses considered bleeding after 56 days PP), your baby is under 6 months old, and you're fully breastfeeding.

All of these things are true for me, but I'm still not buying it. Seems like too many people have had experiences to the contrary. Were they not fully breastfeeding? Seems weird that this is in an otherwise very logical book.

My baby is 4 weeks old, and the plan is to use a condom.

I had a pregnancy scare at 8 weeks post partum so I researched this subject at great (Obsessive!) length. The statistic I saw again & again was that exclusive breasfeeding, no periods back yet, & your baby being less than 6 mos meant that you were 98% covered, only 2% of women fitting that criteria became pg. That's a pretty fantastic birth control if it's 98% effective, but I was still scared that I was one of the 2% it failed for.

Good luck! I hope everything turns out exactly how you want it to!
