What did you do with yours?

The placenta that is. If you had a homebirth, did your midwife take it to dispose of or leave it with you?
My midwife left the placenta with us and it's been sitting in our freezer since last July. I don't know what to do with it, but can't quite bring myself to put it out with the garbage.

DS's is sitting in our freezer and has been for over 2 years. We decided that we're going to plant it this summer. For #2 I'm going to have part of it dried and encapsulated to help with the recovery.

we planted a tree with ds's. dd was born in the hospital and the placenta was the last thing on my mind...

They are sitting in the freezer waiting for the perfect spot to be buried.

Er.... um.... thanks for posting this, I never would have thought to ask my m/w if she would be leaving it here.

In Ontario the Midwives MUST LEAVE the placenta(they cant transport it) i LOVED having it in the fridge it was so funny when people would come to see the baby and wed show them. Lol! We were somewhat lucky in once sense about a month after ds birth a light tornado hit the front lawn of my grandmothers(huge lakefront lawn) and pulled up a dead tree. So the ground was already torn up and we were able to plant the placenta along with a beautiful new willow. Now when my grandmother looks out the window she sees Caie!!

My midwife dried and encapsulated it for me to take over the next few weeks. She did this when she did her visit on the 3rd day. It was something we talked about during the pregnancy.

I really felt an energy boost from taking it and plan to do it again after this birth.

(Sorry if I grossed anyone out!)

It's been in the freezer for 18 months... we plan to plant it when we buy a house with a yard (whenever that happens!)

Mine's been in the freezer since last June! When I finally got out of the house after my babymoon to buy a rosebush to plant over it, the nurseries were out of roses for the season.

So, it is sitting in there awaiting spring so I can buy a nice rosebush!

I ate part and buried the rest.

i didn't know that! what a strange restriction. ours was in our freezer for a long time and i have no idea what my husband did with it.

I buried it under a tree for the dogs to find & dig up.

DH tossed it . Without asking me what to do with it.

i think ours will sit in the freezer for a while. we own our own house, but want to move in a few years (it's only a 2 bedroom) and i don't think i could leave something like that behind if we buried it. when we do finally settle into our "forever" home, we'll probably bury it

I had ds in a hospital and didn't even think about getting it.

A year ago Jan. I had a miscarriage and we buried the baby in our yard where a tree used to be. Either hurricane Katrina or Rita uprooted the tree. So on the one year anniversary of the miscarriage we planted another tree above the baby. The placenta for this baby will be buried under that tree too. I do hope to do some placenta prints with it first and maybe consume a small amount.

We kept it in the freezer for a week or so and then dh put it under a new pear tree he planted (I think it was pear--maybe apple? We planted so many fruit trees around the time she was born I don't remember!)

We kept it in the freezer for a few days and then planted it under a special rosebush that I picked out for my son's birth.

i plan (this is numero uno, due sometime in april) to have mine dried and encapsulated. i'm depression-prone anyway...so i'm hoping for nature's prevention!

i like the idea of keeping it in the fridge and showing people though

I didn't realise there would be so many of us with a placenta still in our freezers
We're gonna keep it there until we move (we need a bigger house) although that may be sometime yet, and plant it with a tree or shrub.

Love the idea of drying and encapsulating, and must admit I hadn't heard of it before
