do lentils cause gas?

I know beans are notorious for causing gas, but what about lentils? I'm having gas issues today after eating lentils last night and at lunch Although they weren't soaked and last night I think they were a bit undercooked as well so that might have something to do with it.

My short answer would be no, as long as they are properly prepared.

IME, I had difficulty digesting all legumes before I learned about soaking and sprouting. Now I soak for 24 hrs, and sprout for another 24 hrs, and have no problems with digestibility. We had sprouted cooked lentils 2 days in a row this week, and no...um...nasty side effects.

My experience is that all legumes cause gas for me, even soaked. That said, I can eat small amounts occasionally and be fine. Even lentils give me gas, so I try to minimize them in my diet.

Lentils give me the worst gas of any food ever.

I have found that mixing meat and lentils causes a lot of gas, sticking to plain vegetarian lentil dishes does not cause any gas. I don't have an explanation for that, only it works 100% for my family.

All legumes cause it for me *unless* I soak at 140F or there abouts. Then, it's minimal.

I can't tell you how happy I was to have found that. :

Lentils I love and used to eat quite often but they give bfing ds terrible gas and we get no sleep in bed at night when that happens, he screams in pain, even when I soak them a lot before cooking them what I thought would have been sufficiently (though must say I havent sprouted them as PP mentions). Yep, no lentils, broccoli or onion for me.
