What do you wear?

Yes, it's a silly question but this is my first birth!! & I'm just wondering what do you all wear when you're giving birth at home??? I don't really want to be running around the house naked the whole time & I don't have a gown or anything like to wear, so I'm just wondering what everyone else has been doing for their births or what they plan to do!

Thanks everyone!

Well, the first time I was induced so I had a lovely hospital gown. Couldn't stand the thing.
Second time we were in Hawaii, it was hot. When I got out of the bath tub, I wrapped a sarong around me. When I went to the hospital I wore a pair of shorts and my dhs shirt. But I loved the sarong, it was big, I only tied it above my chest, so it didn't really cover me, but it was enough to make me feel covered and not covered, I didn't want to be covered, if that makes sense.

With my 1st I wore a pink nursing tank top and the hospital gown over it. I took the hospital gown off once I got into the bed to stay and just covered the rest of me with a sheet.

Have you heard of a Binsi skirt? It's a skirt made for laboring and delivering in. They are expensive, but look nice, have great coverage, and yet gives you plenty of room to move around, squat, etc.

I'm gonna wait until I'm actually in labor and just wear waht I feel like. With DD, i wore a bra and the hospital gowns - and I have NO complaints about the hosp. gowns. After she was born, I dumped them on the bathroom floor and was done with them! (actually, I don't think I put my PJ's on until I had some sense that I wasn't going to leak blood everywhere - so I enjoyed the gowns for at least 24 hours).

I bought 3-4 nursing gowns - the old fashioned knit kind - at a yard sale when I was pg with DD and never wore them - I prefer PJs to gowns as a rule. SO I have them on deck as my back-up clothing. But other wise, I foresee the tank top I've been sleeping in all pregnancy and some big jammy pants being worn until I need to go bottomless. I'm not one to run around naked any other time, and am not even a little comfortable without a bra, so I'll definitely be in *something* - not to mention we don't run the heat, and I'd freeze my fanny off naked in my living room.

i'm actually having a homebirth, so i was wondering what you wear at home, as there are no hospital gowns at my house!! & i know you need something so it's easy for my midwife to check things out or no??? i'm just not sure!

I honestly don't remember what I wore at my last (home) birth. I know at one point I had on a tank top in the birthing pool - and I only remember that b/c I see it in pictures.

I might have wore a night gown or I might have just been naked. More than likely I was just naked.

I am a "larger" gal with self image issues, but when I'm in labor I could not care less. It all goes off and I don't give a flip who is around me or sees me.

I've been grappling with the same question myself. At this stage in the game, I'm not about to spend a bunch of money on a maternity night gown but I want something like a sleep T-shirt so I can go bottomless without baring my bottom. I just bought an oversized (XXL) maternity T-shirt from Target's clearance rack for $5. I got the XXL for the extra length and drapiness.

I, too, have been pondering this, as I plan to have a home waterbirth and I am running the video camera the whole time. I don't want a bunch of shots of me naked because I don't want people who see the tape later on to feel uncomfortable watching it, yet I don't envision wanting to have more on my body than some sort of comfortable bra. I'm also one for not wanting to run around the house nekked and I envision going from birthing tub to bathroom too often not to have some sort of covering below....OK, still pondering....

I'm the labor in the nude type. With my last birth dh had to keep throwing his robe over my shoulders while walking out to the car and once we got there, I ditched it and rode naked to the birthcenter, which was on the other side of campus. I'm sure I was a sight to see, but I didn't care since I was too busy pushing!

I bought myself a Blue Canoe organic cotton cami bra that I plan on wearing and maybe boxers or a cheap ($9) skirt I got at target that has the yoga pannel - it's not maternity, just from the junior department.
However, I know I will end up naked by the time the baby comes.
With my first homebirth I think I was wearing a cami or sports bra and some bike shorts until I got in the shower and then I was naked the rest of the time. With my second homebirth I got naked immediately but it was only a 45 minute labor.
I saw a skirt similar to the one I described above at Old Navy yesterday for $14. I have no idea why someone would spend that much money on the Binsi.

I was in my pj's until my water broke then I put on sweats until I was checked b/c I needed to push. When I got into the water I just had my bra on. Once you are in labour you don't really care whether you are naked and who is there. You are just doing your own thing. At least that is what I found.

Just do what you feel like then, have some clean things you already find comfortable to wear available. You never know how you might feel in labor- I too as noted in a previous post used to have a lot of issues about being seen naked, but had no qualms about being totally naked the entire 3 days I was in labor with my first. I have since come to not care what others think, and know that I am who I am... that's the way it is. Most of us are not supermodel size 0's...we are just women.

Answer: I do the naked thing ...

That's why it's called your "birthday Suit" !!!

I will probably wear one of my husbands tshirts that are way too big for him too....they're so comfy and they cover me!

I have a black nursing sports bra that I'm planning on wearing at least to start out when I get in the water. That way I should have some pictures that are "appropriate" for the squeamish male family members to see. Um, I didn't think about getting in and out of the tub, I've got a lot of towels?

When I was labouring in the living room I was wearing yoga pants and a camisole.

When I got in the hottub the yoga pants came off but I left the camisole on. Logan was born in the tub and I didn't have anything to put on when I got out so I wound up naked. It didn't really bother me but I wish I had something to put on since none of our pictures are suitable for family viewing.

I have a couple of sarongs from when I lived on Kauai that I think are a good idea around my hips and maybe a sports bra or a comfy nursing bra on top. But who knows, like YoBecca, I might just feel like whatever else and then go with that. But thanks for discussing this, that way I can dig out that stuff and know where to find it

I'm planning a birth center birth, and will be doing the sarong thing as well. I figure I can move the slit to the side if I need to be more modest for pictures, and it still leaves plenty of access for everything else. I have a couple, so if one gets wet in the tub, there's more to spare.

I'm not really a "nekkid" chick, but not sure what I'll think when I'm actually in the moment. At the very least, I know that everyone there will be ok with it, no matter what I choose.

I had a birth center birth with my first, and got naked right away. It just felt right - no one looked at me funny or anything, so I just felt comfortable. This time around I'll be home and am planning on being naked too.

I was naked and didn't even know it. My 16 y/o sisters 19 y/o boyfriend was here too. Guess I was really off in labor land.
